Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and this is amazing.

We are getting married in Riviera Maya in January 2014.

We will book this week, we were waiting for a couples of reviews from different hotels.

My questions is, a 300$ deposit will be required to make the reservation of the rooms and plane before March 2013. The final payment will be around septembrer-october 2013.

What kind of invitations should I send to people and when?

This is what I think I will do :

1 - Save the date e-mail to everyone with all the informations concerning the hotels, dates, deposit ect...

2 - Invitations (not sure what kind) by mail with RSVP before date of deposit.

3 - Final invitation just before the final payment.

What do you think? What kind of invitation should I send to people prior to the deposit?

I'm really mixed up and I'm not sure where to start...

Thank you for your help everyone.

Hi Melanie8806! Welcome to BDW!!! I think the information you want to provide your guests and when are completely up to you. I decided to send STD's with the date and name of the resort just to give my guests a heads up that I was planning a DW. I didn't include too much detail because I haven't finalized much.

I would take a look at the amazing different things the ladies on this site have used and incorporate it into your wedding so that it reflects you and your FI !

Good Luck!

Hi Melanie 8806...I totally agree its all about what you want. I am just sending out invitations 15months in advance with ALL the travel info included. That way people can look it over and decide and still have enough to save and plan. Most of my guest will need that long to pay for their trip anyway...

I'm with Marymack in that my guests need to prepare in order to budget for their trip. For this reason I opted to do Invitations with all our travel information in early November this year for our October 2013 wedding (almost a year notice) A lot of our guests already knew we planned on having a DW and were asking questions so this helped to answer them too :) We will not send out anything else as all information is also available on our website (link included on invitation) except the invitations to our AHR!

With all this being said.. it would work just fine to do it how you mentioned above! Whatever you think works best for you and your guests.

  • 3 weeks later...

We are also getting married in January 2014. We were originally going to send save the dates first and then the invites a few months later, but we also decided to just send out invites.

We are sending ours out in January 2013 with a RSVP date of October 1st (final payments are due 60 days prior - so a month later). We are just going to put everything else on our website, including when to have deposits in by and the fact that the date is tentative until flight schedules come out.

Hi there, I dont think for DW, the earlier you let the guests know, the more chance they will be able to make to the wedding. I have 2 friends' DW that i cant attend because by the time they ket us know, we have just returned from our trip for the year and we just couldnt afford another trip in that short notice. For our wedding in 19/07/14, STDs informal by email in August 12, Invitation June 13 Email reminder early Jan-14 RSVP: 15/01/14 (deadline to get early booking boat trip discount)

Hi Ladies,

You definitely want to give your guests as much notice as possible in order for them to plan and budget in advance for their trip! I absolutely agree that a printed or electronic Save the Date should go out to your guests as soon as you have the hotel, wedding date and pricing for the trip confirmed. I would then suggest setting up a wedding website, where you can update your guests with upcoming events, information about the hotel etc. Keep the website current and use this as a tool to communicate with your group and get them excited about the trip! I would include the website link to your Save the Date.

Formal invitations can be sent out as early as you would like, but at this point, most of your guests will have all the information needed to book!

Happy Planning Ladies!
