  • We haven't sent our save the dates yet, we are planning to send an e-mail within the next week or so, then follow-up with the invite in January
  • I just mocked up our wedding invitations.  Once we decide we like them and are happy, I will get them printed and will assemble.
  • We just received information from the resort with information I have been waiting for.  I sent back a very detailed e-mail with a ton of questions.  Once I receive a response, it will help in the planning process.
  • We are making the OOT bags in March/April.  We are asking for RSVPs back by mid-March and the room rate expires end of March.  Based on this, we will have a good idea of number of guests.  We are also moving to the Bay Area end of February, so we do not want to buy stuff here and have to move that too.
  • I have been snipping images of what I envision for the ceremony set-up and thinking about centerpieces.  I have a .ppt created so I can just keep everything in one place and then have something to send to the WC.
  • I have been pricing out things like sashes, centerpeices, etc.  I am in a holding pattern until I have a better idea of what I need to buy exactly.
  • I have picked out the style of dress for my girls and am waiting for the sample colors to arrive.
  • I have an idea of what I want for a dress, but haven't done anything on that front yet.
  • I created a budget to see how much we were spending and to see how quickly all of this adds up.
  • I did create a wedding website, so I feel good about that.

So basically, for a June 2013 wedding, we really haven't done much other than pick the resort, lock in group rates, secure the wedding date, book our travel to the wedding and all the honeymoon flights.

I'm pretty sure we are going to do maracas as favors at the reception. I love the little quote about kissing to put on the maracas (Instead of tapping on your glass, here's a system with Mexican class. Stand and shake with all your might to see the groom kiss his bride tonight) and I think it's perfect for a wedding in Mexico. If something happens when the time gets closer and we don't end up buying them, then I think the welcome bag will be just fine!

I thought a LOT about favors, and loved the idea of scratch offs with a local coin, but FI thought it was cheesy.  I couldn't come up with anything that I thought people would actually use, and I decided our budget was too maxed out to add something just for the sake of adding it.  We're putting mini rum cakes in the welcome bags, and I thought about leaving those out and using as favors, but 1. I think they will clutter the table, 2. People will likely forget them (and definitely won't want to eat them after the big reception dinner).  So we're just skipping the favor.

I really wanted to make my own centerpieces, but the reality is that it's just not worth the minimal savings.  Unless I'm going to haul vases to Grand Cayman, I still have to rent those, worry about them breaking, etc, and the savings on the other stuff just isn't worth it.  I also realized I'm not going to want to be messing with things the day of.  So - for those of you taking your own, more power to you!  And I am a little sad I couldn't make it work.  But didn't make sense for us.

That is funny that you just brought up centerpieces because I was just about to ask about those.  What are you all doing?  We're getting married on a very small island in the Bahamas and our venue is not an all-inclusive resort so we are pretty much on our own when it comes to centerpieces.  I'm open to any ideas!

We're doing the submerged calla lily ones, like this, but I think without the stones at the bottom and without the candle, and cylinder vases instead of square.  The pricing comes as a cluster of 3 - I think they were quoted at $62.50 USD.  I'll probably just do one in the center and one at each end of the table instead (we have rectangular 10 person tables).  Does that sound like it will look weird?

For the cocktail tables for cocktail hour, we're doing non floral centerpieces - just sand and shells in a vase.  Those will be like $19 USD each, and I just refuse to spend any more than that!  Maybe I'm cheap but it just seems crazy to spend so much on simple centerpieces.

I am also doing the maracas + kissing!  I think that too should be enough, right?  I was actually going to use them as place cards.  On the other side of "shake it for a kiss", I am going to right name and table number.

That looks very similar to what I want to do. I like the submergable colored candles in the vases. Something like this:700

I am just not sure if I want to take so many vases with me and it's pretty expensive to rent them from my resort. I may just end up going with something basic that they offer. Who knows, I'll have to decide on that a bit later.

As for cocktail hour, you're not being cheap! I'm not even doing centerpieces for cocktail hour, so that's being cheap! haha :)
