I originally thought I'd spend $200 tops, but when I started trying on dresses I liked the more traditional ones (strapless, a-line, etc.) and I really liked all the shantung silk dresses I tried. Soooo, I did find one dress that fit the bill for $650 at a really small bridal shop in Austin, but then I tried on this two piece Romona Keveza dress during a trunk show and it made me cry so that was it.

I think the Romona dress was about $1700, I got a 10% discount for the trunk show and they custom made the dress into one piece for me at no extra charge. I also got a good discount on my second dress which I ordered from the same place so total for both with tax, veil and pearl headband it as $3300. I'm paying about $700 more for alterations on both dresses.

It's a lot more than I thought I'd spend or want to spend and frankly if my mom hadn't insisted on paying for it I wouldn't have done it, but every time I do a fitting I just get dreamy. I love that dress.
Alisha, have you posted pics? We'd love to see them!!

Hi! I looked at "I Do I Do" in Gaithersburg, Betsy Robinson in Baltimore, and the David's Bridal in both Bowie and Baltimore (near Marley Station Mall).

There's a thread called DC/VA/MDgirls. Where did you buy your dress that I think will give you some good leads of bridal shops in our area.

Good luck and keep me posted!

I bought 2 - I know - I sound like a diva- but it was more I couldn't decide what style I wanted- more indecisive vs diva- hehe... one is a sheath --it's a Hjelms couture- and I'm wearing it at our "send off" party we are having here (in Raleigh) before we leave, and out reception party in Charlotte when we get back -the dress I'm actually wearing for wedding is a Watters-- I got both at the same bridal store so they gave me 20% off total-since I bought 2 -- I was right under $3K... - not counting alterations- ouch.

Here's the Hjelms-- it's just a V-neck front...

oops- sorry couldn't get it to actually paste here--

Houston Bridal & Formal Gallery

here's the Watters:

Watters Brides | Bridal Gown Collection | Style 1039B | Silk taffeta v-neck gown with fully draped bodice and dramatic trumpet skirt and embellished belt. Sweep train.

I was randomly shopping when I happened upon my dress... It was before we were even engaged. We had talked about getting married and that we would want a DW. I saw the perfect dress in the clearance prom dresses at JC Penney! It is ivory with a black sash (but I am going to have it replaced with a blue/teal color). It is a halter style with an A line bottom. Because I did not want a train for a DW on the beach, it is perfect. I tried it on for kicks and giggles and KNEW it was right. But I did not buy it. A few days later we ran into one of his ex's that I happened to know. (he didn't bring her up before so he was unaware that we knew each other) He was so embarrased that he had dated her (she has a reputation) that he asked if we were going to break up. I started crying and said that I had found a wedding dress.... So, we went to look at it (yep, I tried it on for HIM) and he said to buy it. I was soooooooooo happy! (it's like our engagement ring - it made it official!). The cost $89.99! It will need a bit of altering, but I am guessing less than $100. I am currently bidding on some shoes on ebay. Looks like I will win in a few hours. $10 (W/shipping). And, I am searching for the veil on ebay and postings..... Total will be under $250!

My dress was originally $1,000 but I took the dress that was in the store so the boutique owner dropped it down to $700. But before I bought it, I had looked online for the dress cheaper and found it on Bestbridalprices for $458. I printed out the dress with the online price and I asked if she could take an additional amount off the dress. She offered me 10% more off the dress and even though I still could have gotten it cheaper online, I decided to buy it then because I knew exactly what I was getting. So, I spent a little over $600 and I already have my dress hanging up in my closest!!
