Tulum - Fire Restrictions?

Recommended Posts

Being an event planner in my every day life I wanted to get my wedding venue and photographer and all that important stuff nailed down right after I got engaged. So I am getting married at Ak'iin in Tulum and very excited about it.

Now that I'm working out details with my Wedding Planner down in Mexico, I was just told that we cannot have Chinese lanterns as Tulum has very strict fire restrictions. Which encompass everything from fire dancers to Chinese lanterns.

Colour me disappointed! But I did want to share with fellow BDW brides in case they had their heart set on a fire related activity and were debating venues.

How are your plans shaping up??

Have you ever heard of Dove Balloons?? If fire is not an option this could be a good alternative:

Clever! Thanks for the creative idea, nice to have another option besides bubbles and rose petals :)

I am getting married at Ana y Jose in Tulum and we also asked about wish lanterns. They are also against the rules. Since so much of Tulum is made from natural materials, such as the thatched roofs it's too risky should the winds shift them back towards the shore. Huge let down but certainly understandable. I would look into fire dancers though, I have seen make images of weddings with them near the water's edge. Search wedding photographers sites to find examples of tulum weddings with dancers to try to sway them.
