Changing our DW plans and need some advice :)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We recently started reading these forums when the idea of having our wedding in Mexico came up and wanted to ask you all your opinion.

We got engaged this September at Cabanas Tulum and personally loved the tranquility, service and intimacy of the hotel and area so much that we decided to have our wedding there for about 30 or so guests in November 2013!

The problem arose when we started talking to a planner and the hotel itself. The wedding would surely be beautiful but we have alot of relatives who might be particular and not enjoy the more rustic aspects of the hotels on the Tulum beach road, we realize it's our day but we'd like to try and make it a time that everyone truly enjoyed. Plus since the hotel is a boutique hotel, as we got started with planning, the prices started climbing and for a rehearsal dinner plus the wedding day, we were looking at just under $16,000 before we even got the photographer, our rooms, and the other incidentals that are surely going to come up.

This gave us the nudge needed to start looking at All-Inclusives as another possibility though now we are back at square one, finding a perfect spot, and are very confused.

We stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres and enjoyed it there, so we were considered that or Excellence Cancun Riviera. Though they can be a bit pricey for rooms and we don't want to hit our guests over the head with hotel costs.

We also have been looking at Dreams Tulum but some wedding reviews have been great there, some not so much.

Other ones that came to mind have been the Palladium Grand, the Royal Playa del Carmen and Secrets Maroma Beach but it seems for every pro to a hotel resort, there are cons lol

We are looking for a  resort large enough to offer entertainment, multiple bars and restaurants with good quality, a beautiful beach that we can have a wedding on or near, and a few different pools, good clean rooms that aren't set back in the jungle and a variety of room prices offered so that people who want to come but don't have a tremendous budget aren't asked to spend the $600 a night or so that SMB is asking for. We are open to anywhere along the Riviera Maya though from just north of Cancun down to Tulum though.

I know this is a big wish list for a hotel but it's for our dream wedding and we're hoping to hear any of your thoughts, experiences or ideas.

Thank you:)

Thanks for the tip, Lincoln:)

Actually we are working on narrowing down our choices and are down to a few. I know there are a ton of reviews of them all but after a while, they all start looking the same lol...anyone feel like sharing their thoughts about us having our wedding at any of the following resorts? We'd greatly appreciate it :)

Excellence Riviera Cancun

Excellence Playa Mujeres

Dreams Tulum

Now Jade

The Royal in Playa Del Carmen

Secrets Maroma...though we think the rooms might be out of range for some guests

Paraiso Lindo...though it's kind of on the chopping block for us right now I think

  • 3 weeks later...

Check out Paradisus la Esmeralda, I think the rates are under $200 per person, per night, all inclusive. I've visited-- it's gorgeous. Offers both an adults-only and a family side; so many restaurant options, I lost count! One restaurant/bar in particular had a great global beach-chic vibe.

I also love Tulum's boutique hotels! So cool. Too bad we can't have our cake and eat it too ;-)

Good luck!
