Printer suggestions for DIY projects

OK so I planned on being sneaky and using the printer at work to print up some inserts that I wanted to add to my invitations on card stock I purchased. It looks like the card stock is too thick for me to use in the work printer and make this a free DIY project. Anyone have suggestions on printers that are good with card stock? If I'm going to buy a printer I might as well use it for other projects, so looking for a decent one that will get me through the rest of my DIY projects, which are still TBD! Any input is appreciated!

LOL... you sound just like me.. My big scheme to save money was to use my work computer... but it did a terrible job at printing my invites and on cardstock in general. (

But I was super happy to find my Canon. Still on sale for 129.99, it's an all-in-one. Also wanted to mention you can get your empty toners filled at Costco's for the lowest price around.

Um, ditto that. We are 6 months away from my date and hardly anyone has booked. Apparently a lot of people didn't realize there was a link to our website on the save the date, and that the website had all of the travel info. Maybe I should get smarter friends? LOL kidding of course.

 

Sending out official invites as soon as that printer arrives and I can print out one more thing to include and then hopefully people get it together and book!

I ordered it two weeks ago from amazon as well and just set it up this past weekend. I'm soo excited.. I'm going to start my STD's this weekend. Maybe we could share trial and error tips along the way. lol

Yay us! I did have a slight problem with it recently. The first time I set it up and used it wirelessly with no problem. This past weekend I went to print out a new wedding project and for the life of me could not get the wireless to work. It kept saying it couldn't find the printer, even though it was clearly logged into my wifi network and appeared to be online. I eventually had to connect it with a USB cable directly to my laptop to get it to work. Going to attempt wireless again this weekend. Wish me luck! I've had no issues with the actual quality of the printing, or using heavy card stock. So that's good at least!

Have you thought about outsourcing your printing?

 

Doing printing at home (even on an expensive printer) can be tricky and frustrating to say the least. Plus, after factoring in cardstock and ink cost, etc.. it can come out cheaper to have a professional printing company print them for you. 

 

I'm an invitation designer that currently does all DIY invitations.. meaning my clients print out their final designs. I send them all to Catprint.com and they have raved about how nice their invites turned out. I also used catprint.com for my own wedding invitations and they came out looking absolutely fantastic. They did a great job and had wonderful customer service. 

 

Anyway, it's something to think about!

If you are printing in color, and I am sure you are, a color laser jet is your best option.  They cost more and the toners are more expensive but you produce a much better quality product.  The inkjet are less expensive but they lack quality.  In the long run the laser is where you want to spend your money
