Reception lasting the entire evening??

Recommended Posts

I agree with the above - remember that you have the cocktail reception too. Plus I've also heard of brides asking the resorts to be super quick with their food/dinner service and then there will be more time for some dancing etc with everyone there. Heading off to the disco sounds like a blast too!!

yeah i agree. i was just doing a site visit and saw two weddings while we were there, and it seemed to work just fine to have just a 4 hour reception. people had a lot of fun, but it's not like your typical wedding where people are seeing each other for the first time in ages -- they have already been spending tons of time together. i think a good way to think of it is that the whole week/weekend is sort of your wedding celebration, so the length of the reception itself is not such a big deal?

My wedding resort is only offering a 2 hour reception. And they recently informed me other resort guests would be in the restaurant at the same time. I put a stop to that as I was never told that there was a minimum guests required for a private reception. Which is strange as all of there pricing is based on 12 guests, but they claim you need a minimum of 35 for a private reception. Why would anyone want strangers at their reception? They have agreed to make the restaurant private for us for 2 hours. There is never any dance breaks allowed, which is fine with us, but I can see why that would be a turnoff to so many brides wanting the full reception experience.

I agree with the others, if you have a cocktail hour before hand, 4 hours seems like plenty.

I agree with PP your reception will be fabulous regardless of whether or not it will last all night. You may also be sooo tired of entertaining, thanking guests, smiling ear to ear, etc. Eventually you'll want to wind down look at your new Hubby and bask in the fact that you're now married!!!!

Based on the restrictions of our ceremony location, we won't be able to start our ceremony until 8pm, serve dinner at 9pm and start dancing, etc at 10pm!  We have the hall until 2am, but I don't think that many people will be able to stay out that late.  So I guess I'm having the opposite problem as you, our reception ending too late instead of too early.
