I love that quote - it's sooooo true!!  For a while (about a day) I was upset about my decor falling through, and then in the end I realized, who cares, I'm still marrying the man I love, with our without balloons.  Now I've decided not to plan another thing and just take it as it comes. I am so lucky, both our families have been soo supportive - no one has really complained about the price, or the fact that they have to go anywhere, and the people who cannot come just said no and that was that.  So I haven't really had to field anyones rude comments.  I really feel for you ladies to have to deal with people calling you a burden, and making demands.   I would feel like complete crap if I was being beaten down like that over such a happy occassion. it's true..weddings get judged so harshly - but next time you're invited to a wedding pay attention to what people are saying about it..it's not only your wedding they judge.  EVERY wedding gets judged and by people who have no right. Just remember - all those a-holes who are giving you excuses and making you feel bad - be glad you're going away and don't have to pay a dime to feed them at an at home wedding, because they'de be saying nasty things about your wedding even if it was at home, and the problem is they'de come to that one..and it costs you money!  It just shows people's true colors.
You are definitely right. You are also really lucky to not have so much Criticism.

Hi everyone!!! I am new to this forum. I am planning a 2014 Disney cruise wedding. I know it is still very far away and they dont even have 2014 itineraries out yet so I am just trying to do as much research as I can before it is time to book it. I see so many cute DIY things on this forum. Cannot wait to finally set a date and start actual planning.

LUCKY!!!!!

But honestly- after a point you're just like "whatever people" When my first sister complained it upset me but when my second sister complained I was like "honestly if you can't make it, you can't make it. You have until June to decide so that's plenty of time" but I definitely ended up having to ax my sisters from the bridal party because I need stability in my bridal party, help with planning and glue gunning things lol and if they can't decide whether they want to attend, they should just be guests. It sounds horrible to say but my sisters missed my 21st bday, my graduation, my engagement- just about most of my big milestones so I can't say I was terribly surprised. Now I've made my sisters sound like horrible people lol They really aren't- we just don't agree on the role of family.

You're so lucky that people haven't been giving you grief. I had a hard time with travel agents as well as people complaining. If you don't mind me asking, who did you go with? I ended up finding an amazing one in Mississauga. She's bent over backwards for us to a great rate. And of course now I'm dealing with people wanting to book themselves or telling me I could've done better. I cannot believe how unrealistic people can be. We are going to an all inclusive, gorgeous resort for 7 days. How can you beat that? Yeah its in july so the flights are limited but regardless of going in the summer or winter, it's th Caribbean!!! Is $1700 that much to ask?! So frustrating. But you're right, every wedding gets judged. I'm just so glad I went this route. :) and I know that the people that join us wont regret it! :D

Yea the guest list dwindles and dwindles and you know what- I'm ok with that. Because the people who want to be there will and the complainers won't come and ruin my day! My mom called me to tell me both of my sisters told her they aren't coming- and that's me putting it nicely. If it's just my parents, my fiances parents, and our bridal party (8 of our friends) I'm ok with that. Breathe in, breathe out, and reconcile lol At the very least- I will fall within the 24 guests included in our package and not pay for extras! Win win.

We are trying to swing a small return reception here. I had a cute idea of having our invitations say "In Case You Missed it...Elvin and Evelyn got married...please join us for a welcome back party as they introduce themselves as husband and wife for the first time"

My MOH and mother were going to squander money on a bridal shower (I HATE bridal showers btw... and I live with my fiance- so we don't need duplicate toasters and blenders). I convinced them instead of putting the money toward that- they can help me host the return reception. We already have a DJ because we could not get our DJ contract cancelled and our money refunded (to the tune of $1500 down the drain.) So it's time to make that DJ work for his money.

We will send separate invites because my fear is if I note this on our destination invites- people will just attend the reception here and we consider our actual wedding to be the exchange of vows that will take place in DR. I'm busy scouring the internet for inexpensive locations. The restaurant where we got engaged will do a buffet dinner and open bar for $45 per person. They also include the centerpieces (not floral- candelabras or birch trees) and the uplighting. They have a catering facility next door to the restaurant. It's nice and modern- not where I would host my wedding but a return reception- sure, why not ; ) Here's the pic- Can't really tell but all I could scoop from FB. I had pics in my phone but I deleted them.

I organize my High School's prom, graduation and I booked a spot and am hoping that they cut me some slack for a return reception. Funny how they will book a prom and charge a really low rate but inflate it and the minimum guest count for a wedding! ABSURD. But here it is:

It's an air conditioned tent on a Golf Course in a park close to where I live.

Time for wheelin and dealin LOL

Thanks! I wrote something corny for now haha. I wanted one but then I was like "Do I really want to put how many guests have booked or some quote I found online?" So then I was stumped. I just had a momentary excitement because 4 guests called to tell me they booked. And after my night- that was some silver lining.
