June 2013 Playacar Palace Brides

Recommended Posts

May I ask what made you choose to use a travel agency vs. going directly through Elvia/the resort itself to block the rooms?  I had actually thought the room block needed to be made directly through the resort in order for the room nights to count towards getting the unlimited events.  So, I went through the resort.  Everything so far seems like it's comparable, but I can't be certain...and now I'm questioning my decision not to use a travel agent!  Gah.  Any insight on how they've made your lives easier?  And if the prices really are a better deal?

Also, thanks for your feedback on your timeline for sending out the invites. Great to know!  I think I need to get on getting mine out :)

The rooms do not need to be made directly with the resort to qualify for the group amenities BUT do need to be made through a group block (ie. expedia/orbitz bookings would not count).  A TA can help with your air arrangement and also act as you advocate if things are not going smoothly with the resort.  Our rates are also as good or better than directly with the resort.

We are an ONYX level travel agency with Palace Resorts (the highest level) and do many Palace weddings.

We are also hosting the Playacar Palace Wedding webinar in a couple of weeks.  There is still time to register.

You can contact us:  Contact a Destination Wedding Specialist HERE and we can get some rates for you.

We haven't done anything either.  But the resort has a hurricane policy, and most airlines do too.  I think we're just going to hope for the best, and if there is weather, still try to carry on if we can.  Risky, but not really sure what (affordable) protection is out there to cover everyone's travel and the wedding if it needs to be cancelled.

MrsTobeD - you mentioned that you received a pdf with pictures of each location in it.  Is that the same document with the different wedding-color schemes?  Or is there something different that shows all of our event space options at Playacar Palace?  If it's the latter, that is definitely something I'm missing and would find very helpful.  Did you get it from Elvia?  Thanks!!

Lea,

When booking air and rooms together it is a much better deal for your guest, travel agents can also negotiate rates with the resort to match online prices for i.e. expedia, etc.

I am getting married at the Playacar Palace in November 2013, currently have around 45 confirmed guests. The resort is already completely booked for the first two days of our stay, meaning that friends/family who have not yet booked are now booking two days into the stay, and staying two days longer. Everyone had plenty of time to book though, so not much we can do! We knew this was a possibility when booking with a boutique resort. Some of our family and friends will be staying off of the resort and we will be getting them day passes for the wedding.

I'm interested to hear where people are planning to have their ceremony and reception. I was planning for the beach for the ceremony and then the area by the pool for the reception, but need to have a back up plan in case it decides to rain on our parade!

Are you using an outside wedding coordinator, or just using the decorations that they are providing?

Travel agent can make a lot of things easier, but you really have to be careful about the room block. Many people said they were coming, I put down the deposit and now I will more than likely be penalized for not having 10 rooms booked through my TA which is approx. $1000! (Not what I planned on spending my wedding savings on)

We put initial deposits down for the block (30 rooms for 3 nights) but we're dropping them 2 months before if people haven't booked. We made it clear to our guests they have to have booked by then if they want to come, and if they're late they can always just try to grab a room through expedia!

What are ppl's Sept/Oct./Nov. dates?
