Getting married November 2013

Recommended Posts

Hello Ladies:)  This has been the most helpful site I have found. I am in the early stages of planning here, but alreay have so many questions. First of all does it sound realistic to have a ceremony and beach reception, plus our rooms and flights for around$5000.00.  We will probably have around 50-70 people attending. We are only paying for our own airfare and room of course. I keep reading that alot of you bring your own decor. How do you get it all there?? I am feeling very overwhelmed and Im trying to stay positive:)  Thanks ladies.

Hello Tara Steve,

To answer your questions, go ahead and have the ceremony and beach reception, it so much fun especially when you want to keep things as casual as possible. and the best wedding favor would be flip flops, for your guests who do not want to sink their feet in the sand.

Most of brides have been bringing their own decor, how do they do it? have your wedding party carry some of the decor.

Feel Free to ask me anything and I will be happy to help

Happy Planning!

Congrats Tara Steve! and welcome to the forum:) I agree with dreamweddings about bringing your own decor and having your wedding party help carry it on the flight. That way you have more time to shop for what you want without the pressure of having to find it once you're here, or having to settle for what is available here.

Wishing you all the best with your plans and have a fantastic wedding here in our beautiful Mayan Riviera !

Hi Tara Steve,

I'm also have a November 2013 wedding in the Riviera Maya. It will be a beach ceremony and reception (Playa del Secreto-- see photos here and here) for about 65 people.  I think $5,000 is a little tight for having that number of guests, but I have also read some very impressive posts from brides who say they've done/are doing just that! Do a search from the BDW homepage for "how much is your wedding costing you" and see the results!

In my experience, controlling costs has a lot to do with the price of your accommodation... at $xx per person, per night, for many nights, things add up! I do think that the cheapest route in general is the resort route. You have less variety and choice, but it really is cheaper to do everything on-resort (this is by design, of course!). If you pick an all inclusive one, it's a good deal for the guests and for you: your reception can be had at a fraction of the cost of what it would be off-resort because you only have to pay a "supplement" charge per guest (because your guests are already paying their own food and beverage through the cost of their stay.) If your reception is not the same location as your accommodation, you will have to pay for everything from catering, equipment rental, and venue fee, to sometimes even your own generator to power everything!

A side note to off-resort beach weddings: If you decide to go this route, look at private beach clubs, such as the Blue Venado, which won't require you to supply the power. They have delicious menu options and can provide full catering services. Tables and chairs can be offered for free if you have a minimum of 80 guests. You wouldn't have to rent a dance floor, either, as they have something there than can do the job.

Also check out Wiki's restaurant, which offers a great beach-front opportunity for ceremony and reception. The food is really good!

As for decor, I agree, many hands make for light work :) But another suggestions is to rent large items. Consider hiring a wedding coordinator-- they can easily handle decor and rental recommendations and challenges, and will know the best/most affordable vendors for what you are looking for. Also, many Wedding Coordinators operate on commission from the VENDORS, so their services are free to you :) One of these that we have first-hand experience with is Euforia Events. (We are using Joss from Unique Cancun Weddings-- and love her!!-- but she charges a flat rate of $800.)

Good luck, and be sure to keep us updated on how your planning is going :)
