Ok so originally I thought getting married 4th of July weekend 2014 would be easier on everyone as far as taking time off work, then TA/ friend of the fam said that airfare would be higher due to holiday (it's not 4th of July in Mexico but do people just travel there?) so then I thought ok how about July 12th which is the next Saturday and my mom's bday, then last night I read on here at it's good luck to marry on Wednesdays. My grandfather passed away in November while I was prego and I ended up giving my son his name as a middle name. My grandfather raised me so I always said if he could i would have him walk me down the aisle. Well, I don't know why it dawned on me last night. His birthday is July 9th, a Wednesday, in between 4th of joy and my moms bday. (I'm getting to my point soon I promise) so I text 2 of my cousins today who are like my sisters and asked them for travel purposes if that would work for them. My one cuz text back you tell me when you want me there. It's your day. My other cuz who is the one who talked me into a destination wedding in the first place texts me, actually August would work better for me bc I usually work summer school. Now I knew this but I chose joy bc I figured it would be a summer month hence easier for those with children and when I first threw out the idea of July MONTHS ago (been engaged since September) she said she would be there. I still have to book the resort which I was planning on doing this weekend but now I am SO torn!!!! My cuz has children and I feel bad bc I'm already asking everyone to spend a lot to come to my wedding. Should I now consider August to make it easier on her or should I be annoyed that it's MY special day? Ugh, why did I even ask to begin with?!

You aren't going to be able to please everyone... part of my Dad's responds was "October is that great for me because of my dead lines"  (He publishes a coupon magazine and had pretty strict deadlines) to which I replied "That's why I'm telling you a Year and Half ahead of time... if its that big of a deal .. then don't go"

With a year (or more advanced notice) I think she could find a sub for the few days she is gone... no?

I actually am not even sure my sisters will be coming to my wedding as they are both college students and didn't seem to understand that they can plan around school for an occasion like this... to which I say.. oh well

I know that my all sound a tad harsh - but It is Our Day and I will have an awesome wedding even if I am the only one there ; )  Well I guess it would be better if the Fiance was there too LOL

Half of the couples coming to my wedding have children (ages 1 - 14) and they all said Thanks for the far notice so we know we will have time to save and plan (including childcare options)

I guess my opinion is - although you asked.. it sounds like you asked if a mid week wedding was okay, not if another month was better and if so which one....  I'd be annoyed and do what works best for me! : )

P.S.  I am also planning a Wednesday Wedding - I didn't know it was good luck.... thanks for the tip

I am going to send my save the dates in July or August (still working on designing them and need to get them printed, and I want to complete my website so its ready when they are sent...plus I need to finalize the invite list, which I'm finding is the WORST part!). I'm thinking that since those are going out over a year in advance, we will then do the invites in December with an RSVP deadline for March. I'm still so confused over whats too early, etc.,but hey, I'm a planner! lol

I do plan on having an informal "RSVP" section on the website, so that way if people know for sure one way or the other they can use that before the actual response cards are requested. Who knows if people will actually use that though or stick to what they say, so I am not depending on it by any means!

Hey Date Twin : )

I don't really know what "right" is but I am sending my STD in July and Invites in October with a with a December RSVP due date.

I know that might seem like a short RSVP time line but I have a plan that will require me to know by January who is defiantly coming and since at that point they will have all known for 9 months they will have figured out if they are coming (everyone has already said they were anyways - except my College student Sisters but they should know by then).

I truly appreciate your support.  It means a lot!  Basically, the story is this: I had a date on hold (via my planner), but the Grand Coral Beach Club (GC) was not allowing brides to book until they came out with the new menus.  Unfortunately, with the new menus came a new $2000 site fee.  Given that it's about $4000 to rent the entire place out, I think this is absolutely ludicrous, as I'm using their food and staff.  My planner was very surprised about the whole thing, as this fee seemed to come out of nowhere.  I have a feeling that GC may lose some business over this whole thing.

FH tried to make some suggestions about having the wedding elsewhere, but there is no way that I'm having the wedding where we live or in my hometown.  FL would mean that his parents would try to invite all of their friends, as would having it on certain Caribbean islands. No thank you! I'm just going to trust my planner to do what she does best.

That really sucks - I hope you (your planner) are able to figure out something soon so this isn't bogging you down for a long time!

Keep us posted!!

*hugs*

St. Lucia is really pretty! We looked into having it there but there were only a few flight options to get there and a few coming home (unless people wanted to spend 1200+ on flight alone then there were more options). I worried the flights would fill up and it'd just be us there.

One thing I will say about St. Lucia, just so you're aware, is that people beg there more than any other place I've been to (and I've been to almost every island in the Caribbean and most of Central America).  The resorts and island are GORGEOUS but I wish someone had told me so I knew what to expect. My FI was snorkeling and a guy tapped him on his back asking him to buy something or give him money, true story!  You're sheltered from it more in the resorts but I like to give people a heads up because it totally took me by surprise. I also went shortly after they were hit by a hurricane so it could've been just that people were in a worse place than usual too.

Hello hclibby1982,

Thanks for the tip!  I have never been to St. Lucia so any info like this is helpful.   I actually did read (on tripadvisor, I think) a review about how they took a photo of a guy climbing a tree (for a coconut, I think) He allowed the picture to be taken but then jumped down from the tree and asked for money for "posing" for the picture.

I am going to be sending packages of St. Lucia info out to everyone and was going to include that story so they know not to snap random pics of people... if you don't mind I might include your story to - I don't want anyone to feel like they wish they had known before hand - if I can help it!

Which resort(s) have you stayed at there?

Thanks for the tip on the flights!  I hate that it is too soon to figure out how much it is going to be.... everyone knows a round about price for the resort which was helping when asking people to go to St. Lucia for our wedding and I wish I had the same info on airfare.   I do know that everyone will have a flight available to them because we all (thankfully) live close to major international airports.

Everyone has also said they will be staying more then the required 3 nights - they figure they will be going all that way mine as well get a good vacation out of it.

So I guess I can just hope for the best : )

Hi Rayndrop! Yes you are right. That was my question. I wanted to know if it would be easier on them if it were a weekend. I really wanted to right back ummm I'm sorry August was not any of the options. Anyway, I think I'm just going to stick with Saturday July 12th. That's a compromise. I didn't do the 5th bc of airfare, I'm not doing the 9th bc it's the middle of the week so if the 12th is a problem then REALLY...don't come. Wishing you the best of luck on your Wednesday wedding! Just one question: do you get a better deal on the weekday? (I might have to reconsider if you tell me yes lol)

Haha yeah it is about time - although I must admit that I'm pretty sure we would have done this a long time ago if it wasn't for me... I've kind of always said I didn't know if I would ever get married... not for a lack of loving my Fiance ... its just never been high on my list of things to do!

What types of things are you putting in your Welcome Bags... more so anything really unique?   Not that I need any more ideas in my head about things to add - I have gone totally over board and still have a loooooooong time to keep adding stuff... but still I'm interested ; )

I will search back to try to find your pics.

: )
