OH tumblers! Yes, those would be awesome! (I still trying to picture the plastic cups with the handles though confused.gif

LOL I didn't think you meant solo cups...but that was the first thing that came to my mind for some reason. stupid.gif

Yeah, the wait is long enough without going all the way to the "real" deadline!

I'm sending my save the dates out in July, I already ordered them but they take 6 weeks to come in uuuugh! And than I'm going to send out the formal invites in Nov I think. We have to have the guest list sent to the WC by 3/16/14. So I'm going to put the deadline before that obviously, but I think we'll have an idea before than. So far the list is at 31 guests! Shall see what the final number is

Newbie here too!  We are thinking of Mexico (Riviera Maya), Belize, or the Bahamas in April/May 2014. We just got engaged in the DR.  If anyone has suggestions on good resorts, or a way to pare down the selections, I'd appreciate it! So much to think about!

I wasn't sure if they would think it was rude if we only did the OOT bag, but you have a good point! And would of course be so much easier. I came across a few good websites for stuff:

myweddingfavors.com

discountmug.com

We are doing OOT bags, as Welcome bags for the guests. Then, on each plate at the reception will be a notecard saying that we donated to a charity on behalf of them, in leau of a gift. My FI works in the not-for-profit industry, so it reflects exactly who we are as a couple.

Many charities nowadays will do that for you- give you a nice little card to give to your guests that makes note of your contribution.

Just an idea!

That's such a great idea! It's even better that it represents you two as a couple! It will be for a great cause! So you know that money will go toward something useful instead of a knick-knack that will be tossed aside at your guest's home, left at the resort, etc.

Haha it's funny how you ended with a drink and the TV. Talk about a real life example! lol

Congrats on your home renovation! cheers.gif

Yea, a real life example indeed. lol.  I have great intentions, but my mind is thoroughly exhausted after a day of work so I think i'll be productive after a glass or two of wine.  But, it turns into a glass or 2 while taking a bubble bath and watching tv. Then that's pretty much the end of the day for me because i'm going to bed after that!

Thank you...it was a long, costely, slightly painful process that was supposed to be a small renovation and turned into a full renovation that caused us to push back the wedding date from September 27th, 2013 to next May!  But it all worked out, and I appreciate the "new house" woot2.gif

Since you're also getting married in Punta Cana, what a lot of brides have done is, just pack an extra suitcase with their DIY, decorations, etc and pay the extra fee. That way no stress and you know it won't get lost!

MissJali - That's great advice!  I was thinking about shipping also and was worried about that.  I still haven't decided if i'm going to do the bags and carry them or not.  I'm still a bit concerned about lost luggage, but at the end of the day I guess i'll just have to pray and cross my fingers.

But, you wouldn't really give that out at the wedding...I think another important thing to remember is that your guests will have to fly back home so you don't want to give them to many unnecessary items. You know all the women will have their bags stuffed to the brim as it is. lol

Here are my thoughts so far:

  • Give my guests OOT bags in order to make their vacation more enjoyable. Put a card in their telling them that it is a thank you welcome bag (have to figure out better wording. feedback.gif)
  • In lieu of having wedding cake, since dessert comes with dinner, my FH and I have discussed buying mini Tortuga rum cakes in Grand Cayman (our wedding location), putting them in clear bag gift bags (think of the non-shrink wrapper clear plastic around gift basket..that's what I want to use) then tie it with a ribbon and a note.

The note will say something like "Take this Tortuga Rum Cake home in order to remember our special day. When you eat it, we hope that you will be filled with love and happiness you  experienced during this vacation." Something like that...idk I still have enough time for that.

Maybe you could do something like the rum cakes if your group is small enough? Or you could give out something else from DR that was symbolic to your guests or native to the island? If your group like to alcohol, then maybe you could do mini bottles.

Thanks for the link. I will have to go check those out! :)

These are great ideas.  I'm still going to do a wedding cake, but a friend of mine makes custom shea butter so I was thinking about special ordering them from her with a new scent to represent the wedding that has our wedding date printed on them.  The rum cakes are a great idea though.  I may have to consider both as I think that would work well with my crowd.  Everyone doesn't drink so I didn't want to do mini liquor but rum cake would work.
