Anyone out there getting married just the two of you, no wedding party?

Recommended Posts

Most people seem to be having big weddings even in DR.  For us it is second time for both of us and it could be likely we will be doing it on our lonesome.  Maybe a couple of guests - just not sure everyone will have the vacation time or the budget.  My family is in UK and friends in US.  I think at most maybe would have 10 guests but that is being hopeful!

Either way I still want a nice hotel and nice location even if it is just for us - but because it is second time and don't want to spend a lot and wondering where would suit us best. Been looking at Dreams La Romana, Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace and in Punta Cana Sol Melia Caribe Tropical, Barcelo Bavaro Beach and Majestic Elegance.  If it was just us I would opt for La Romana as I want to visit there - but also been looking at Punta Cana incase anyone else wants to join us so flights would be easier and cheaper on them.

Anyone done solo wedding ceremonies or looking to do?  Would really like to find somewhere with a free included ceremony since we don't need a big reception but most require x number of rooms booked to do that.  I have tried making enquiries with some hotels but finding much the same as anyone here - no-one is fast to respond.  Infact been waiting for Wyndham 4 weeks now.

Not many must have's but would like a ceremony that would be legal in US and just somewhere nice for ceremony and pictures - without lots of gawking tourists!  Would be even worse I think if it was just the two of us and everyone staring.   I am also torn between some nice gazebo with the sea and blue sky for ceremony/photo's or having something at dusk on the beach with tiki torches.  The latter has been my dream for a while but might regret missing out on great photo ops.

Just wondered if anyone has done this type of wedding and had any advice?

Thanks!

Hi!

I'm getting married in December, and we are having a tiny wedding at Dreams Punta Cana. I agree with you - it seems like most people are having big weddings!

My fiance and I have been together 9 years next month, so we're kind of over the whole "wedding" thing.

We invited only family and close friends and have about 10 people coming. We're doing the free symbolic ceremony at the wedding gazebo (the wedding package is free when you stay in the honeymoon suite), followed by photos, then dinner at one of the restaurants.

We're getting legally married in the U.S. because we didn't want to deal with getting a judge, doing all the paperwork, waiting for the marriage license, etc.

I've heard from other brides/friends who have visited the resort that if you just do to the restaurant you want to eat at when it re-opens for dinner and tell them how many you have, they'll put a table together for you and just give you a buzzer so you can come back when it's ready. It seemed wasteful to send $600 on a reception for such a small number of people...

And, I've heard that the beach wedding isn't really that private at some resorts. All they do it rope off a small section, so everyone just hanging out on the beach is watching you. You can have your photographer take everyone over to the beach for some photos - that's what we're going to be going.

Hope this helps!

I just read on the Dreams Punta Cana brides Facebook page that a girl just did a bon fire on the beach with drink service after dinner for her guest. She had a small wedding, too, and said it was a really nice extra without having a big reception. They rented a sound system from the resort and played music from their iPod while their guest enjoyed drinks and dancing.

I'm looking into this option now.  :o)  We're not super formal, and something like that seemed more like us. Just something else to consider!

Good luck!

Hey Caitlin!

Since you mentioned Punta Cana, I wanted to share this uber romantic elopement that took place in Cap Cana! Take a look HERE and a few of their photos are below! It's such a beautiful depiction of their love and it being just the two of them was perfect!

The bride wore my barefoot sandals on their yacht trip!

Sorry about that, the link didn't work for some reason. Here's a link to their ceremony + yacht trip: http://www.*****novablog.com/pavel-marika-juanillo-beach-elopement-romantic-yacht-trip/
