Uneven number of groomsmen and bridesmaids

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I need your opinion. My fiance came up with 3 groomsmen. I came up with 6 bridesmaids. I'm having a hard time cutting it down to 3. Would it be weird that I have twice as many bridesmaids? I think for the actual ceremony we would just have the bestman and MOH stand up with us.

What do you all think?? Thanks!

Ditto - not weird at all! (at least not to me!) I came up with seven and he came up with three (but felt like he needed to even it out). Parents, friends and acquaintances have said, "Oh no, what are you going to dooo?" I'll have them walk one-by-one, or maybe in triplets, or maybe not do a walk down the aisle at all. I don't think it's necessary to follow "rules" or traditions that don't work for you. Don't cut! What's important is to have the people who are most important to you be part of the day. Speckles121, I love that your fiance has a groomsperson :-).

A lot of our couples lately have had uneven wedding parties!! I definitely don't think it's weird. As essandpea said, you have to pick and choose what traditions are right for you and your fiancé, these day's it's definitely not necessary to follow the rules.

Have 2 girls per guy (what guy doesn't like that :) if you're going to have them announced into the reception or walk down the aisle for the ceremony (or maybe consider having the guys up at the front for the beginning of the ceremony and just the girls walk down the aisle).

Also, from a photographic stand point having an uneven bridal party is fun and forces the photographer to get creative and mix it up when it comes time for the wedding party pictures!

Good choice! I have been to fewer weddings recently with even numbers than uneven one. We are doing 2 for me, 1 for him.

I think it is silly to ask someone to choose someone to stand up with them who is not as important, just to get an even number. I watched a show recently, where the guy was calling his friends to try and get someone to be a groomsmen to get an even number. He said something like, "Hey Mike, it's Sam, from High School..."

Silliness.
