Anyone have a not so "magical" proposal?

A lot of people give me funny looks when I talk about my proposal story, but it was exactly what I wanted. My fiance and I are a very low key kind of couple and he proposed when we were sitting in the back yard around a fire with a bottle of wine. We had spent the day together, went to to Zoo, and just came home to relax. With my head on his shoulder he said, "did you have a good day?". I replied "it was a perfect day" at which point he got down on one knee and said, "Well how bout a million more of them?". It might not have been the big showy proposal most girls look for, but to me it was perfect!

It sounds like to me, that your fiance proposed in a way that was very special to the two of you, and that is all that matters!!!

Awe! I love this proposal story! How sweet! Mine wasn't all fancy either. We were just at home when it happened but I couldn't imagine it any other way. I think I would have felt awkward had it happened while we were out at a restaurant or something!

i think it's an absolutely wonderful proposal. it matches who you guys are and the circumstances that you were in, and definitely had a lot of sentiment behind it (and you know a lot of guys are not emotional!) Not to mention, I think it's a pretty cool story to tell.

We've been married for 8 months and I'm still waiting on that proposal! We had been together 9 years and one day I just said "So what's the hold up?" to which he responded "You. Tell me what you want to do and we'll do it." I had himmed and hawed on a wedding for years, but said very promptly "You, me, beach, done." It was booked three days later. We went shopping for the ring with his parents on vacation in Florida (He said "I suppose I have to get you a ring now that we put down deposits?") and he gave it to me on the beach in Florida with the words all girls want to hear: "Your ring's in my backpack if you want to go get it." Ah, the romance.

The mothers just lie and tell everyone that he dropped down on one knee on the beach and proposed. It makes them feel better.

I went back East (live out West now) for a GFs wedding. i was a bridesmaid. i was pretty drunk. We were walking to the after party and he proposed on Broad Street. I felt kind of bad getting engaged at my gf's wedding, but apparently she insisted that he do it while we were all together so we could celebrate.

We had discussed moving in together and the fact that he didn't want to ever get married, I was ok with it - not thrilled but ok.  A few weeks after that conversation his Grandmother passed away and after leaving work to be with him and spending the day comforting him he started talking about how special I am to him and how I am the only person he would ever consider marrying.

After the previous conversation and the fact that he was going through so much I just responded "OK".  He then suggested that we have a 'pretend' wedding on our upcoming trip to Mexico, to which I again simply responded "OK".  That quickly changed to maybe we should do the real thing and elope when we go (3 months later), again he simply got an "OK" from me.  The next words out of his mouth were met with much more excitement when he said we couldn't do that and we should call our parents right away to tell them.  We got my parents out of bed that night and his folks thought they were dreaming (he was 41 at the time and had been telling them since he was a teenager that he would never marry), he still thinks that he owes me a super romantic proposal but I think that the way it happened was perfect!

It was a very short engagement but we were able to have 29 friends and family members join us and since his Dad passed away 9 months later I am very happy that things happened exactly as they did and we were able to share our day with him.
