To Veil or not to Veil?

Recommended Posts

First of all, Juliboley - your dress is BEAUTIFUL!!

Secondly, I am having a hard time deciding on a veil as well.  My mom really wants me to wear one so she bought one (see bottom picture) but I don't want it all over the place during the ceremony.  I also just don't think I look that great with a veil on (maybe we bought the wrong kind or I just don't have a good hair style).

With my hair down and I think a shorter veil (I went on two different occasions to try on the dress):

w/ hair up (def. don't like this).  This is the actual veil that I now own:

This is my plan also! I am trying to post a pic but because its on my comp I dont know how.

A veil, specially full or Cathedral length, can be problematic at times, but completely worth it. Specially if you have the proper backup (ie. bridesmaids, see bottom photo). Tho, no veil, or just a headpiece can be as just as powerful, here is some inspiration:

I was considering doing a birdcage veil but then when I tried the dress I want (which I'm still undecided on) I realized it looked way better with the traditional veil. Now I want to have birdcage/fascinators made for my bridesmaids. They think I'm crazy but I think if they're not white they'll look amazing in them. What do you guys think? Am I nuts?

Great idea, bonus points for originality, you don't see many bridesmaids wearing birdcages. I believe birdcages are really glamorous.

Maybe a flower in the BMs hair, but a fascinator and bird cage veil? LOL If i were in a wedding and the bride mentioned that, I would obviously do as she wished, but would be thinking WTH

Look at it this way, would you ever want your GMs wearing baseball caps or other headgear? Probably not

I finally ordered my veil yesterday!!  Im so excited.  My gown is a mermaid style and the skirt has ruffles on it but not alot of volume, so I felt I needed a bit of extra oomph for the bridal wow factor.  Originally I wanted a chapel length veil for all the drama but after reading so many posts about how it gets tangled, pulls, etc with wind I took that option out.  I then tried on a fingertip length veil and thrilled with it as I wanted a bit more drama so I thought I'd just do no veil and a pretty hair clip or something.

Well, my friend referred me to a stylist she knows, who had me try on a similar gown to mine, with a waltz length veil - no beading, ribbon, etc.  Just a simple cascading circular cut waltz length veil, with a beautiful floral rose hairclip - again no crystal, bling but big enough to make a statement...and its GORGEOUS!  I absolutely love the look.  I can't wait for the wedding in 8 weeks so I can finally see it all put together.  Will share when I have pics from my wedding!
