I am having the same dilemma. My mother & BM's insist I need a shower and have to register- but I am living with my FI for 2 years now.

I've asked my friends & parents for advice, and they suggested putting just some around the house "updates" we could use. So things like a comforter [we still have a full for our new king bed], maybe some new pots & pans, or some kitchen gadgets/utensils. Other than that, some smaller options could be: cleaning supplies, mops/brooms, decorative frames [perhaps some wedding inspired ones for the big day!]. I was also thinking of maybe asking for fun stuff like gluten-free cookbooks [i've been diagnosed with Celiac for almost 2 yrs] and even some gluten-free goodie bags [cake mixes, baking products, etec]. I'm just trying to think of anything we could really use and not have our friends & family buying us things we'll never need.

I would say Bed, Bath, & Beyond and maybe Macy's, and maybe even put Home Depot gift cards down if you have any "fixer-uppers"

One really cool site I heard about was My Registry- Where you can add anything from any store onto one main registry, online! So guests can shop online and go to any site to purchase what you need. I like this idea, b/c I personally LOVE Ikea and since they don't offer a registry, this is a great way to put lots of little things on the list I wouldn't be able to otherwise =)

Hope this helps

Great minds, think alike. :o)    Sounds like some great and useful items to put on your registry!..  Cookbooks are def a useful item and great for you having to eat gluten-free.

BBB is def a great place for many many items.  :o

Oh... I have to share.. Anyone wanted to do a not so traditional shower.. It's called a recipe shower or party or whatever you would like to call it.   Guest bring you a recipe on index cards. You can premake cute ones to have the host include in the invites. They will write down their receipe and then as the gift they can bring you all of the ingredients you will need to make that meal. Great for those of you whom live with your fiances already and for the ones who don't.   Trust me, you'll end up with plenty of meals for a couple of weeks and wont have to worry with grocery shopping. I love to cook, so thought this would be a great way to try new things.

Thanks for sharing this!.. I will highly recommend registering for extra towels and bath room essentials if you plan to move from a small house to larger one or apt to a house. You don't realize how much this stuff adds up until you have to complete a bathroom or two.

Also, I agree with not shying away from the high-ticket gifts.  Many brothers/sisters and cousins will probably want to go in on a bigger gift that they know you will enjoy and probably be a gift that you wont just go out and buy for yourself.

Bubbles- This is a GREAT idea!! If I had the pantry space, I'd totally do it LOL

I've also done something like this in the past for my cousin's shower- but minus the ingredients. It was a traditional shower, but in the invites we asked guests to bring their favorite recipe. We provided the recipe cards, and had a cute little recipe box for guests to put them in!

His family insisted that we register for small things for the guests that want to buy us gifts. But I will def check it out. Thanks!   What type of items did yall do?

New bedroom set and stainless steel grill (we'll need/want both by next year) and a green house since we're really into growing our own veggies/fruits/stater plants for our yard and garden. We considered listing one of our home remodling projects, we thought it was nice to list a few larger ticket items instead of one huge item.

hehe.. I understand.. I live alone and fill my pantry.. I've told Alex I need a BIG pantry bc I tend to overbuy at the grocery store.. Maybe I need a smaller one so I will only buy what is needed.Seems like a smarter plan there. :-/

Ahh sooo cute!!... You think I could just have everyone send me recipes?.. I love trying new things. And if it's someone else's favorite you know its got to be good. :o)    I see a new forum in my future. :o) Recipe Share.

YES! You can absolutely do this!! That's actually a GREAT idea for a new forum post- it can be a "pot luck" forum haha!

And if you want this idea for your shower, there are cute ways to include the recipe card gift in the invitation.

"A dash of wishes, a sprinkle of joy, and a whole lot of love"

Please share your favorite recipe with the bride to be!

Be sure to bring it with you to include in [name] recipe box!

There are even really cute personalized recipe boxes that are specifically for the soon-to-be Mr & Mrs! Take a peek =)
