Newbie: Playacar Palace March 2013

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I am new to the forum :) Most probably getting married at the pp in January 2014!  Just wondering, if there are so many weddings on the resort all the time, does the music get loud at night in the rooms? Especially since some of the reception areas are right near the building?  Any insight on this part would help!

All the best to all the brides! Such an exciting time! :)

Hi Suze,

I'll be getting married at the Playacar Palace in October, so I'm right in the thick of figuring this out myself.  I'm told the Spa/Salon is brand new and at the resort.  You can use 20% of your total resort credits there toward a spa or salon service, then you have to pay any overage out of pocket.

I heard from Dulce, the coordinator, about 2 months prior to the wedding.  She gives a ton of info at that point, one of which being the contact info for the spa/salon so you can make sure to get your hair/makeup appointments booked well in advance!  Everything is done at the spa/salon on the resort now so no traveling, and from what pictures I've seen online (and the website) it looks really really pretty!!

Any other brides in the next couple months?  I'm getting married Sept 1, 2013 and have a group of around 75 people.  We've finalized flowers, DJ, resort equipment, etc. and would love advice/would be happy to answer any questions people may have!  Our PP board has been so quiet lately!!!

Hi Ladies,

I got married at PP April 27/13. They built a brand new spa which is right in the resort now - it is really really nice!! Definitely recommend using resort credits to get a massage - we got a couples massage and it cost $28 total! A lot of my guests used the spa to get their hair done the day of the wedding and they were very happy with the results.

To answer Fernandy's question - weddings that are outside on the resort (south solarium, momo terrace, etc.) have to end at 11pm, so there is no issue with hearing music in rooms, unless you are going to bed at 9 LOL. Even still you couldn't really hear it that much. I had my wedding on the beach, and got them to let me go till 1:30am. They actually sent a letter to every room the day of my wedding saying ear plugs were available at the front desk haha!!! I don't think the music bothered anyone too much though since we were on the beach which is further away.

Good luck everyone!

Yes of course!  For the DJ we did a 3 hour package and added a few extra ambient lights (we're using the ballroom), which didn't wind up being too expensive.  We didn't hire an MC because the DJ will do basic introductions for the bridal party/announcing the first dance/father daughter dance/cake cutting and we don't need anything more complicated than that.  We also splurged and paid for a sound system for 3 hours for the rehearsal dinner so we could have background music, mics for the speeches, and a plasma screen to do our baby picture slide show.  For both nights plus our extras I believe everything came to around $1800.

Since we wound up switching to the complimentary package after speaking with Dulce (and we're using an outside florist so decorations for the ceremony still came to less than the cheapest Palace Resort package) we had a little room in our budget to throw toward the DJ :)

Oh WOW!  I am just sooo happy I stumbled across this forum!  I just got back 3 days ago from my visit to the Riviera Maya to look for venues.  I didn't have to look to far once I got there.  We stayed at Playacar Palace and absolutely LOVED it!!!  Their beach is just stunning and the customer service I received from everyone planning my trip out there and upon arrival was just outstanding.  That being said, I looked at secrets and contacted other resorts, the lack of response and willingness to assist me without involving a travel agent had me already pretty annoyed by every other resort.  I do not think 5 days to respond to an email is acceptable, and as it gets closer to the wedding date if that were to happen.. look out!  But I digress.  There is so much to do between Senor Frogs and 5th street at Playacar, I think everyone coming will have a blast.

My only bit of advice I'm looking for from all of you ladies; I got to see a wedding while I was there and it was stunning. The only thing I didn't really care for were all of the people surrounding the wedding and gawking.  I understand that since it is so public there is not much to be done and after seeing more resorts I also understand that its pretty much like that doing a wedding at any resort, but some of these people were REALLY close.  Two young boys in bathing suits sitting right behind the chairs watching and talking, people behind the ceremony (between the ceremony and the water, kind of killing any ceremony pictures with the water in the background), people just on the beach that didn't seem to care what was going on (one oblivious girl even let her dog run wild).  In between the bridesmaids walking down the stairs three girls in bikinis ran down the stairs.

I definitely understand that this is a public beach and a crowded resort and I can't have it all to myself :)  But I don't want random people in bathing suits in my pictures or kids in bathing suits walking ahead of me as I head down the isle.

A girlfriend of mine suggested tiki torches with ribbon tying them together to kind of rope it off.  Would this be allowed?  Has anyone else done anything like this to rope off areas and is that allowed on public beaches?  I think one of the ladies at the resorts was joking about hiring some family to muscle the beach for us during the ceremony haha and I wouldn't be opposed to that if we could do that...  Maybe dress them up like federales and arm them with waterguns?  Thanks all!!

Hello Playacar Palace Brides :)

I am soo happy I came across this forum! I am getting married November 25, 2013 and I desperately need some advice about using outside vendors vs. the vendors the resort provides. I have heard good things about DJ Doremixx- but my W/C Dulce is saying it will cost $500 plus another $250 to bring in an outside DJ, is that true?

And flowers, should i go with the resort flowers or should i hire an outside florist? Will PP charge me a fee for buying my flowers from the outside?

Has anyone gotten their hair and make-up done at the PP Salon/Spa? I compared the PP salon prices to The Styling Trio (which i have heard GREAT things and they do airbrush make-up) and it comes out to be about the same. I'm just not sure who to go with and not sure if the resort will charge for bringing in a day guest? Is there a way to get around that?

And lastly, photographer and videographer- Does anyone recommend an amazzzing photographer and videographer that is decently priced?

Any advice/help would be soooo appreciated :)

Hi Amanda,

I have found your posts sooo helpful =) Just wondering, for your flowers, it sounds like you went with an outside florist becasue it was more reasonably priced than the resort? Did the resort give you a hard time or charge you anything extra for hiring someone else to do your flowers?
