Newbie: Playacar Palace March 2013

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I AM A VERY DISAPPOINTED BRIDE. Please know that unless 80% of your guests are staying at the Playacar Palace you may have your wedding there. You may only have 20% of your guests purchase a daily pass. I WAS NOT TOLD THIS until I called and spoke with one of the coordinator (after them not returning my emails for weeks), after 8 months of planning this basic requirement was not communicated to me.

They have a complete mess from their transfer of closing their Miami office and they now are having a tough time dealing with all weddings directly in Mexico. I also speak both English and Spanish fluently and language did not made a difference when communicating the details.

It is safe to say that I WAS FORCED to cancel my wedding since most of my guests are unable to afford a $400 night at the Playacar Palace. This place is not flexible or is willing to make any exceptions, they took FOREVER responding to email. If you have a bigger party that cannot stay at the resort please make sure you discuss all the details from the beginning instead of making the mistake I did.

I guess I could've fought the battle in getting what I was promised from the beginning and not because of their screw up I would suffer the consequences of having to plan my entire wedding from the beginning, BUT HOW CAN I TRUST THEM? I'm sure they would've came up with another big reveal of their policies or what's even worse have a hidden charge the day of the wedding. NO THANK YOU!

I am happily planning my wedding at THE ROYAL playa del carmen (which is right next door) and they have no limits on the amount of daily passes you can get.

Hope you guys find this helpful and beware of this tricky place that has the biggest lack in communication I have ever heard of.

Yes their collections are gorgeous and unfortunately I got bought on that but honestly I would recommend you taking your well earned dollars SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Amanda - I have read a lot of posts from other brides saying they did a brunch at the Italian restaurant (and that it was very good!).. normally the Italian and Asian resto's are only open for dinner, so I guess they will let you do something private in them during the day :)

diracornejo - I am getting married April 27 - it was originally April 21 and then the resort sold out a few days later and no one could book that wasn't in our group booking so we switched it to a week later. Are you getting married the same day?!

Novia, I am really shocked to hear this! Were you working directly with the resort or with a travel agent at all? I wish you the best of luck getting everything planned all over again.

Does anybody know the tipping standards t an all-inclusive resort? My fiance has never been to Mexico or any all-inclusive resort, but heard that he should take $500 just for tips for the week. Does that sound a little extensive? Also, does anyone know if you can use your own plastic tumblers with lids at the pool? Thanks!

That sounds pretty high- I just tip how I feel it's deserved, but you could technically tip nothing and it would be fine since it's all inclusive.  However, since they're so amazing and appreciative, it's really awesome to tip (but whatever you feel like, maybe more like $100?).  Totally personal though and definitely not standard!
