Legal marriage at home before DW Advice?

Recommended Posts

I like the idea of doing it when you get back. I feel like if we do it before our actual ceremony I will be more emotional about it rather then doing it after.

@@hyoungquist  That was my concern also. But I feel like the city hall thing will be so quick, we will repeat after the the officiant whereas the DW we will write our own vows and exchange our rings. The DW will be the whole shebang as compared to city hall. So I'm hoping I don't get overly emotional for the city hall part. At least this is what I tell myself to convince myself to do it before hand lol I would reallly like us to be married already while in Mexico - so for those who don't know about the city hall part can refer to us as husband and wife....and it will actually be true!

I'm thinking/hoping it's more the entire day that brings the emotion out. Getting ready. Family being excited. Fiance's reaction to seeing you. Walking down the isle etc that will bring out that emotion. Fiancé is going to cry so I probably will too. But it's so hard to say until we are doing both you know.

@@calgarybride2015 Exactly.I feel like its the process, everyone being there, sharing our vows in front of our family and friends, it will make it so much more special and emotional than the short visit to city hall.

Right now debating who our witnesses will be... maybe just moh and best man or parents or something. Trying to keep it simple but I feel like parents may be upset if they find out they weren't included. Don't know what the chances are of keeping everyone mum.

In the end we decided to choose people who aren't coming to the wedding in Mexico.

That helps keep it mum there, but I guess one never knows.  I don't plan to ask my girlfriend until the last minute, so it won't come out by chance at the stagette, etc.   For us, I think this is best but never done it before lol

@ I definitely feel like my parents will be upset if they aren't in the loop about it. That's why even though my dad will attend the DW, I will give him the option of attending the legal ceremony as well. My mom will definitely be there as well. I will see if my moh can be but I will likely do this middle of the day during the week so since she is going to the DW she may not make this...which is fine. I will feel really bad not keeping my parents aware of the civil ceremony even if they are attending the DW.

i thought about getting married after but I personally don't like the idea, because after the symbolic ceremony in Mexico I want to really feel like husband and wife, like everything is settled now. I don't like the idea of waking up the morning after the wedding and thinking well technically we aren't really married yet- I would feel disappointed. This is why I decided to go to the courthouse before I leave

@@nadiakat17 I would be afraid of feeling the same way. I want it to be official, not us getting back from our wedding then coming home to "really" become husband and wife. It's good that you switched your choice to something that makes you happier :)

I agree ladies....I want to make it legal beforehand. However, a good friend of mine decided to have a JP present at the AHR to "make it legal". It went over very well since those who couldn't make it to the DW felt like they still got to be present for something "important". Not my style but I thought it was pretty cool.
