Low Carb Diet and Wanting to get into shape Support Thread

Recommended Posts

Hello... my wedding is now 99 days out, which means it's time to crank up the diet/excercise.

I lost about 15 pounds through WeightWatchers about five years ago and then gradually lost another 10 over the past five years. My FI lost about 30 pounds in five months through strict low carb w/ one cheat day per week about two years ago. But we both want to lose about 5-10 more for wedding. I already exercise 4-5x a week and try to eat a high protein, lower carb diet. Not sure where to take this next!  I do still indulge in wine/drinks a few nights a week so I may cut it out entirely soon. I'm also trying to eliminate sugar but it's soooo hard.

I love kale now and have been eating kale salads almost everyday.

I also find writing a workout plan each week helps you stick to your schedule.

Wow, today was hard, We took a road trip to Calgary (about 3hour drive each way). And did some shopping and some visiting with friends, I had breakie at home, my snack was an apple but then we were sitting at a pub on the patio for a few hours and completely skipped lunch. The pub didn't have any decent healthy options so I waited, and I was drinking soda waters with limes. By the time we left the pub after 4 I was beyond starving and ready to eat anything, but FI was so strong he brought me to Safeway and bought me cherry tomato's, mini cucumbers, fat free sliced ham and crackers, the we started the drive home and I ate my lunch/supper. (he got himself something too), But it was really sweet his support and not pushing me to order at the pub. Soo we're home now and I didn't cheat all day!! It can be done! As for progress, it's been 8 days and I'm down 2.6 lbs! That's my motivation to keep it up. Hope all of your weekends go as good as mine! L

Hi Ladies,

Like all of you I am getting married and looking to lose weight and tone up. The wedding is in February and ideally I'd like to lose 40 pounds by then.

Last week I started low carb/ wheat free- so far its been ok.

A few carb cravings last week but nothing too extreme. I am down 3 pounds.

I am already a little nervous because i have to start trying dresses on...

Would love some support and advice

Thanks!

Hey Ladies! I started my own version of the Atkins/Low Carb diet after not having any results with what I considered to be a "Healthy diet" and fairly regular exercise. I lost 20 pounds so far but have basically hit a plateau over the last month or so. Summer definately doesn't help as my FI and I have had lots of friends and family visiting and going to a lot of dinners out etc. I have been trying to get back into exercising 5 days a week doing different classes at the gym all the time. It has been too hot to run outside lately and I get way too bored on a treadmill. Hopefully I can overcome this plateau and loose another 10 punds or so before Jan. I am also worried because I have my dress fitting this month so I cant loose too much after that right? I guess I could always have it altered again if necessary? hmmm...

Hi and Welcome!

I am around carbs allllll the time, but I rarely cheat. The thing about low carb that I have found is that it takes some research and education to understand what is "low carb" because it's more than just eating meat and cheese. Research recipes to find ones that work for you and your family, and I bet that you will find that your family begins to follow you naturally. For dinners in my house I just make dinners that include a good portion of protein and a large serving of low carb veggies. Summer is a great time to start a low carb diet because a lot of the veggies that you find at farmers market will fit well into the diet, such as zucchini and yellow squash. You can eat zucchini every night without your family complaining as long as you prepare it differently. Some nights I grill it, or bake it, or saute. Each night is different. The first week or two will be rocky and you will probably feel very limited, but you will get used to it :) In my house we used to eat garlic bread, or biscuits with every single dinner. We don't anymore, and I don't miss them one bit. Snacks will be your best friend, keep low carb snacks on hand as much as possible and your life will be much easier. Almonds are my favorite, only 2 carbs per serving.

That is great advice. I also find that when I got used to no/low carbs, I don't miss them. It takes a few days but once you've been doing it for a while if you eat carbs then you'll feel sluggish and kinda gross. That makes me not want them at all! Good luck!
