How big is your wedding??

Overall, do not worry that your wedding will be too big because of people verbally telling you they are coming. I got to the point where I wouldnt let myself get my hopes up until the guest bought a plane ticket and had been paid in full.

That's a little reassuring actually.  I won't get my hopes up that everyone who says they'll come will actually come. and all those asking to bring a date...ha!

congrats by the way TheWolferts! I see your wedding was just a couple of weeks ago!

Realistically my fiance and I both know that a lot of the people who are "definitely going" won't actually be able to make it ~ but we are getting everything organized to send out STD's and I started sweating a little bit looking at how quickly the list was growing!!!

My mom just doesn't seem to understand that the guest list for a DW doesn't really work the same way as a traditional wedding................................

I had the same issue with my parents. Sorry but the neighbors down the street who I haven't seen since I lived at home do not get invited to a DW!!! I did give in and invite about 10 of "her people" but luckily they all pretty much declined. I told her she could go nuts and plan me the shower of HER dreams an it seemed to help things a bit. And the nice thing about your wedding shower is all you have to do is show up!!!

Its true, things add up and if you are concerned about your budget you should be extremely picky on your guest list, I'd say the addition of 35 unexpected "yesses" has increased our costs by close to $5000!

Luckily for us we want a DW because of our love of the beach and not so much to save costs (we have money saved).

We sent out our save the dates to only our immediate family and close family (not all relatives) and our absolute closest friends. Then we did an A list and a B list. Our A list had over 100 people and we agreed if we get enough declines back then we'll send invitations to the B list. Our "guesstimate" is around 70. But...as awful as this may sound, I also get a little happy when someone says they can't make it lolz.

We sent out about 55 invitations and we ended up having a total of 18 people at our wedding.  We knew most of the people wouldn't come but felt it was nice to still send them an invitation.

We wanted to invite about 70 people, however we are restricted with respect to the amount of people that we can have at our reception - which is 50 (because of the size of the venue). So we invited some of those 70 people and now are waiting to get responses (we gave a deadline) and then if we have more space, we will invite more from our list of 70. Soooo complicated! I wish people could just be honest and say 'yes we can come or not we can't'.

Whew! Glad I'm not the only one that feels like this! We invited about 130. Only about 40 are from my side! The rest are his family, friends and his parents friends (some of which his mother hasn't seen in years!!!) We sent our STD's in June and, every day she sends me a text saying "Please add such and such to the list". I ask my FI who such and such is and half the time he has NO CLUE! The list is getting bigger and bigger! I really hope no more than 30-40 come! Mostly for money reasons. I'm so happy we aren't having a local wedding. If we were, I wouldn't even know half of the guest that attend! That would just be really weird. We are still far out and nobody has booked but people have told us they are coming and a few that have said that, we know will not come. Lots of people are all talk until it comes time to pay.

Another thing with such a huge list are ordering invitations. They are expensive! STD's weren't a problem b/c I ordered them free from Vistaprint but I can't seem to find "cheap" invitations I like. Once you add a RSVP card 140 invitations are like over $250.00! If anyone has a better idea, please help. I'm leaning towards ordering beachy matte Rack Cards from Vistaprint and using them as invitations. Then using a vistaprint postcard as the RSVP.  They won't look 'traditional' at all, but i don't really care about that. It will be more than half the price of traditional invitations. I just can't see spending $250 plus on invitations and I'm not a good DIY person!

We invited right around 100 people.  The wedding is October 20th this year and we have 27 people who have paid for their trip.  The only surprise is that my FI's parents have not booked yet and although they told my FI in the beginning they planned on attending, they haven't confirmed.  It's pretty dissappointing since money is not an issue and his dad is retired and step-mom only works part-time.  I really don't see many others booking this late in the game.

That's a bummer! I hope his parents book soon!
