If I were single, I would be upset if I spent over one thousand dollars to come to a wedding, and couldn't bring a guest. I took a female friend to a wedding once and it was such a relief to not have to sit alone with people I didn't know very well. I was so thankful to the bride and groom for allowing me to bring a friend and I had a great time!

Well, none of the brides here are forcing anyone to come to a wedding, so if a single can't suck it up for a few hours and mingle with the other singles then that's too bad.  Ideally, it's also a vacation for the guests.  And I don't think any of us who are not inviting Plus 1's are intentionally trying to spite anyone or leave anyone out; but it becomes a very difficult choice between picking someone's boyfriend/girlfriend or "date", or inviting another dear friend or relative that you really want to include in your event. The tough part is, that if you don't invite that single person at all, it causes even more hurt feelings, and that's the last thing anyone wants to do.  With that said, I probably wouldn't want to go alone either, but if it's a close enough friend/relative that I want to show my support for and I can afford it, I'd suck it up and go.  I'd bring a few friends along that can hang out on their own the day of the wedding.

We included and guest for all of our single guests - our thinking on this being, if they are going to put out the money to come then its the least we could do (and we would extend an opportunity to bring a guest if we had gotten married at home).  Also since we have a majority of guests who are couples we didn't think it would be much fun for a handful of singles not to have a plus 1.  As much as the trip is for our wedding it is also everyone else's vacation, they have paid their money and taken vacation time to attend our wedding so we want to ensure they have the best time possible, if that means someone brings a friend or "date" we don't know all that well it is fine with us.
