Any advice on keeping cool in Jamaica

Recommended Posts

I know, I know, I picked a wedding date in the height of the summer so I shouldn't complain.  However, its too late to turn back the clock and change anything.   My wedding is at 3pm in August.  That being said does anyone have any advice on staying cool in your dress?

Do you have a really heavy dress?  Because there may be no way to keep cool, you might consider a second dress if you haven't already.

I married in Mexico at sunset in June and I had sweat running down my legs like water.  I knew it was going to happen but I liked my dress and the excitement of what was happening took over so I didn't realize how hot I was until after.  I brought a second (inexpensive, white cotton) dress that I changed into after the first dance and it made all the difference in the world.

Maybe someone else has some useful tips for you.  Good luck!

I second the idea of a second dress.  I would get something cheap but cute that you wouldn't mind changing into during the reception if need be.

My dress was super heavy, but just like Jamy said, the excitement took over and I didn't even realize how hot I was.  Then I would just hold my dress up and get a breeze going under there and it made all the difference to cool me down :)

And drink LOTS and LOTS of water!!!

Im getting married in July, Im getting nice fans for the guests and bridal party. Also, parasols for the wedding party for the pics and it may also block the sun a bit ! I'm getting a big dress, lol, organza material, if you are as well they have hoops available at bridal shops that are placed inside the dress. It keeps you from tripping and the material away from your legs, which would keep it cooler!

I brought fans for the guests.  I was thinking about parasols but I didn't know how to use them if we are doing bouquets.  But I might buy a few just in case.  I picked out a lighter dress last night to wear at the reception too.

Is there any way you could change your wedding time to either earlier in the day or later in the afternoon.  The very hot sun is usually from about 12-4pm, if you could avoid this time it might be a little cooler.  Also, try to choose a spot where there is some shade to get away from the hot sun.

Oh, I tried, I really tried. There is a 5pm wedding.  I had asked over and over again if the other couple put down a deposit or what I could do to move the date later into the day.
