Our Love Story…

Stefan and Sayuri met on a Friday night at a red light: Stefan is in his SUV listening to music with all his windows open. Sayuri stops next to Stefan in her car. His actions get Sayuri’s attention that he is dancing so confidently - not caring if anyone was watching. The light turns green and he looks over at her, she panics and quickly hits the accelerator while thinking to herself, “OMG I was caught!†He then pulls up next to her, notices her beautiful smile and says, “Hi!†“Hello†she responds. Since it was a Friday night - he invites her out for a drink. “Do you want to have a drink†he shouts. She thinks to herself “If he only knew I’m not even 21 yetâ€. “I’m on the way to dinner right now†she says. As Stefan tries to ask her name and maybe get a phone number - traffic quickly piles up in back of them and he suggests that they pull over before they cause an accident. They pull over in front of a public park and he parks behind her car. He walks over to her car and she cautiously lowers her window a quarter of the way while her car is still on. As they started talking - the chemistry between them was instant. They exchange numbers and begin speaking on the phone a couple of times. One day, Sayuri invites Stefan to her best friend’s party. At the party they spoke and danced for a while. They where having a great time and as their attraction grew deeper - they began to get nervous. Wanting to freshen his breath, Stefan excused himself and walked outside to get a piece of gum from his car. Some of her friends where leaving the party and she followed them out to say good-bye. Upon his return - Stefan found Sayuri in front of the house, alone. “What are you doing out here? Are you looking for me? Do you think I’m leaving?†he asks in a nice and playful way. She smiles and says “maybe...†He grabs her hand gently and their eyes meet. While their bodies begin to get closer to each other you can feel the fire burning within and around them. Then as he notices her glancing at his lips - he slowly brings her close and gives her the softest, pressure-perfect kiss - they know this was only the beginning of something real...  

How he proposed…

On July 5, 2011 Stefan and Sayuri were on an adventurous vacation in Costa Rica along with their friends Hector and Nataly. They are on a hidden beach that only locals know about. The scenery was out of a movie. The beach was nestled between two tree-filled, mountainous rocks. In their cooler, they packed breads, cheeses, snacks, champagne, vodka, beer - the essentials for any beach getaway. After a couple of hours – and a little tipsy - Sayuri and Stefan decided to walk down the beach. Sayuri has a drink in her hand and Stefan has his tiny radio playing “Cinema†by Skrillex in the background. As they walk to an area that was a bit private, Stefan turns down the music. Sayuri turns to him and tells him “you look pale, are you ok?†He slowly kneels down… She thinks he is fainting. This frightens her and she turns down to help him up. He says “NO, you stay up†Looking inter her eyes, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a little black case. He hides it from her view until he revels the ring to her and says “Will you marry me?†She says “YES!†and begins to cry. A heavy cloud swooped in as fast as he had proposed and it began to rain. It was perfect, they kissed for a very long time in this beautiful, tranquil place – both knowing that their lives together had just begun. This picture is from that day

MY LOVE STORY…

 

Where do I begin to tell you how I got to the happiest place in my life??

 

Let’s see…up until seven years ago, I was single, I had never been married and I had no children (except for my handsome furry son, my German Shepherd, Mister Wilson).  I always seemed to be a bridesmaid and never a bride…standing out in the middle of that dance floor with that group of single ladies waiting for that bouquet to be tossed her way.

 I was not always single.  I had been in a relationship for seven years which ended in 2001.  We were young, in love, and had the whole world at our fingertips, yet, we let it get away from us and we grew apart.  When that chapter in my life ended, I continued on.  I bought my home, climbed the corporate ladder and slowly made my way into the dating scene again.  Well, after four years of kissing one too many frogs & having my fair share of heartaches- I bailed on trying to find the one!   I was emotionally exhausted and decided to stop dating indefinitely.  I was done!

 

Funny though, don’t they always seem to say that once you stop looking – someone comes along and finds you?  Hmmm...

 

My boss’ wife at the time was a real sweetheart.  She so wanted me to find that great guy to sweep me off my feet.  One day, she surprised me with a gift.  It was a beautiful key chain of an elephant with its trunk up.  The card read:

 

This is the first of a series of “Good Luck†gifts for you.  There is an old Chinese belief that if you want to bring luck to someone, you bestow the gifts of elephants upon them.  The elephants must be received as a gift & a series of seven will complete the cycle.  Look for elephants with their trunks up.

 

 

 

 

What a thoughtful gesture…I was touched.  It actually gave me hope…that good things were coming my way.  It also awakened me to see elephants in a different light…it was uplifting and made me more aware of them in my surroundings.

 

Over the course of several weeks, I started to receive these precious, random gifts of elephants with their trunks up.  My first one was the key ring.  Then a pen arrived, soon after a figurine, then an adorable elephant greeting card with a scratch off with elephants on it, a stuffed animal, a sterling silver bracelet and lastly, a beautiful Lenox crystal elephant ring holder. 

 

I met my fiancé, Bill seven years ago this month actually…when I had sworn off men…I had remained single and unavailable for nearly a year.    From the first night we met – I knew he was the one.  He had the most charismatic, brilliant smile that lured me in and the butterflies would not stop twirling in my stomach.  I hate to sound cliché, but I am pretty sure he had me at HELLO!  We clicked instantly.  It was amazing.  We had so much in common – our love of the water & boating, cooking & fine wine.  We shared a passion for many of the same things, we knew so many of the same people, but through different circles of friends and our paths never crossed!   CRAZY!

 

I kept looking for a sign, asking for a sign…trying to figure it all out.  Are all these wonderful feelings I am having too good to be true????

 

After dating for nearly a month, he invited me over to his home for dinner and to meet his son, Jake.  I was a bit nervous…this was a big step for us.  Low & behold I had nothing to fear.  When we got settled at the house and sat down to dinner…I looked over into the family room…on the sofa table behind the couch I saw something that took my breath away…a statue of an elephant, with his trunk up.  O-M-G!!!  My sign!  From that moment on, I knew I was where I needed to be…with my soul mate.

After nearly seven years of navigating the waters together on the beautiful & majestic Lake George (in upstate New York), we are officially going to sail away together!  My Captain proposed to me, his First Mate, on Christmas morning 2011 & made me the happiest girl in the world.  Since we both share a love of water, we are planning a destination wedding at The Riu Palace Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen on April 2, 2013.  Bill, Jake and I, as well as Mister Wilson (who is now 10.5!) are truly blessed!
