Safety in Jamaica?

Hi everyone! I am getting married in November at Beaches Negril and staying at Sandals as well. I have had some family members express concern about the safety of the resorts. Has anyone had any issues or any problems at all? Thanks!

Hi and welcome to BDW.  This comes up frequently, be it Jamaica or Mexico or a number of other countries our guests only hear about on the news. 

 

My general answer is that I've been to Jamaica (going back next month!) and it is fine.  Are there dangerous parts and dangerous people?  Yes.  The same can be said about parts of every country and city.  I live in Los Angeles and people get murdered/robbed/etc. here daily...but I live here and I'm fine. 

 

It all boils down to common sense.  I wouldn't go to an unfamiliar part of any town in any country after dark or carrying a pocket of cash.  I see no danger in spending time at Sandals or any resort.  Good luck!
