Has anyone actually paid the "vendor fee" at the RIU? If so, was it worth it?

If you have posted pics of  your wedding cake here from the Riu Palace in Cabo please don't take offense; the cakes aren't cute.   

I've always dreamed of having a big, beautiful wedding cake. The only thing holding me back is that annoying $300 vendor fee/ policy the RIU has. Worst case scenerio, I'll take my own sugar flowers or decorations for whatever cake they provide. I'm not going to pay extra for fondant, etc. They are ripe offs.
