We are doing a casual welcome party by the pool so people can come by and say hi and go back to their rooms or go to dinner after. Kind of like a Happy Hour.  We are not staying at an AI and my wedding is on a Friday too.  Most of the guests are arriving on the Wednesday. We plan to do a very casual thing with a few party trays of finger foods and people can get their own drinks at the pool bar of our hotel. We are already doing a full dinner and open bar for the wedding so we don't want to go crazy with a welcome dinner/rehearsal dinner. Actually, we don't have a wedding party really, just have a MOH and BM.

We are doing welcome drinks where we just tell ppl to meet at this one bar (we aren't reserving it but from what I heard it doesn't have a lot of visitors).  We will hand out OOT bags then.  

 

For our "rehearsal dinner" we are actually doing a "rehearsal snorkel" and we rented a private catamaran for the day before the wedding.   

 

I do think it is crazy to spend money on food at an AI, but we have the exact same issue with our AI.  We then decided we might as well use that money elsewhere and take them on a more fun excursion.  

 

Since you have ppl arriving on Thursday, could you instead do a "thank you dinner" or something else on Saturday - maybe an excursion with your guests??

Do you have the christmas tree shops there?  They have TONS of travel items!!!  And I believe they carry aloe all year round!

Question ladies.  How did you or do you relay your "vision" for the decor of your reception and ceremony spaces to your wedding coordinators?  Did they give you decor ideas to chose from or did you kind of piece together things from concepts you have on your own?

 

I went to my future brother-in-law's wedding this past weekend and was impressed with their reception decor and I want to make sure we don't forget about the decor details for our wedding. For example, table cloth, centerpieces, chair covers/sashes, etc.

I honestly wasn't too impressed with what my resort had to offer in their wedding marketing publications and have spent countless hours looking at wedding mags, google, various inspiration boards, and DIY projects for inspiration.  Since I am providing the vast majority of my décor, I will put together a series of mock set-ups (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception) and take dozens of pics and provide to the onsite wedding coordinators at my resort to ensure that it’s executed properly. I will also create diagrams and  provide inspiration pics for things that will be too difficult for me to mock-up (wedding cake, paper lanterns, bouquet).

My resort basically said bring your stuff down. They arnt asking many questions, not even what i have. But there are extra charges for set up of course... But I plan on setting everything up how I want it, like my centerpeices, and taking pics. Then I'll get down there are give them the pics so there is no confusion about what it is I want.

Thanks, ladies.  I think the idea is basically if you know what you want and how you want it, you have to be very hands on.  My wedding planner had issues telling between orange and yellow roses so I know I am going to have to be on top of things with my decor. Just wasn't sure how or when I should blast her with my ideas lol

The language barrier can be tough(if there is one). I kept asking what size the tables were at my resort so I knew what size the runners and table linens should be, and they kept telling me 18cm.Obviously there was a miscommunication lol. Finally i bought the biggest ones i could and just hope for the best come May!

Uhara, is your wedding planner at the resort(if you have a resort), or an independent planner?

no language barrier as this is a British territory, they do use a lot of British slang though lol  My wedding planner is at the hotel (it's not a resort). I think I am going to pick her brain about what other brides have done as to decor.
