That's awesome yall was able to secure rates from 2012 for 2013. Ours say they have a start and end sale date and we have to wait for new sales to come out for 2013.. No fair!.. lol

I'm wondering if we aren't planning to get to our resort soon enough.. :-/ How soon are all the Bride and Grooms going to their destination prior to the wedding date?

We're arriving in Mexico on Saturday but staying at the Westin and checking into the wedding hotel on Wednesday for our Saturday wedding.

At the bank I work at, all my co-workers speak Spanish... I guess I should start learning.... May also take a Spanish class this summer since my college degree I'm working on calls for a humanity class. :o)

Now of course I'm going to have to ask... How do you brush your teeth in DR? A water bottle?  (I had to do that in a cabin we stayed in in the mountains with well water.. Ewwww! We had to change cabins the next day bc I refused to take a bath in it. )

I will also check out Gran Bahia's!.. Thanks! :o)

My brother got married at Excellence Punta Cana last year and the resort was beautiful! The main reason we didn't pick Punta Cana was because we are inviting a lot of the same family members and we wanted to bring them somewhere different. However, we were all able to brush our teeth at our resort with the water with no problem. Maybe it depends on the hotel you're staying at and the type of filtration system they have; but we didn't have any issues.

I was able to add on another night for the group block... yay!!! So this definitly ease my mind. Thank you for all the advice and thoughts.

On another note, I wanted to know when are people going to start buying the items for the OOT bag, if that is what you are intending to do?

We're going to Mexico a few days before we check into our wedding hotel. We're staying at a non AI resort (Westin) and purchasing the bags and much of the contents. Partly because we'll be able to get more authentic items and also we'll be able to negotiate pricing better while down there.

I need some input from my May brides regarding photography.  When are you ladies taking your newlywed photos – before or after the ceremony?  I see pros and cons with both options, but canâ€t make up my mind. As of now, my ceremony will commence at 5:00pm, cocktail hour at 6:00pm and dinner reception at 7:00pm. The sun sets in the Riviera Maya around 7:20pm in the month of May and I really want to capitalize on getting great newlywed shots during this time, I might even push my timeline back by 30 min.  So as of right now,  Iâ€m planning on taking newlywed shots after the ceremony, during the cocktail hour, but I hate that my guest will be waiting around for us and we donâ€t even get to enjoy our own cocktail hour. On the flip side, I love the idea of the big reveal when I walk down the aisle and my Fi sees me for the first time.  And I donâ€t necessarily want to take newlywed pics at 3:30pm when the sun is strongest and Iâ€m in my silk wedding dress on the brink of sweating my tushy off. Thoughts, comments, suggestions….Iâ€m all ears.

We are having our ceremony from 5:30-6 then having our cocktail hour from 6:30-7:30...that' gives guests 30 minutes to go back to their rooms and change if they want, gives us time to take pics and still be able to enjoy some of the cocktail hour without it starting immediately after the ceremony is over.

Hey ladies, Iâ€m looking for a bit of input.  Like many of you, my Fi and I are having a symbolic ceremony for our destination wedding and taking care of all the leagal formalities before or after.  We had no intention of informing our guest of this, as far as theyâ€re concerned, the ceremony in Mexico would be the real deal. We thought it would somehow cheapen the experience for them if they knew.  As such, we decided that we were going to script or own ceremony for the officiant to read.

Based on recent feedback from ladies who have gotten married at my resort, the wedding coordinator procrastinates in providing the officiant with the scripted ceremony and waits until the day of, literally minutes before. To make things worse, not only is the officant unfamiliar with the script, but their accents are so thick that itâ€s hard to understand whatâ€s being said.

So my question is this, will my guests have a cheapened experience if they know the ceremony isnâ€t legal? Is it worth trying to find an outside officiant and pay an extra $250-$400 and conduct phone interviews?  Or will my guest be okay, since legal or not, this is the ceremony that counts and the date that we will celebrate future anniversaries on.  If so, weâ€re thinking about asking my brother to marry us in Mexico.

Thoughts?

Choco, I'm a little late in joining the thread and haven't finished reading all the posts yet but I just wanted to tell you that I got confirmation from a woman that just got married at my resort last month as well as my wedding coordinator that they changed the laws in Mexico (certain cities at least). The only thing we have to do to get married legally is have our passport and tourist card and take the blood test at the resort.

You no longer have to have birth certificates transcribed, etc. Of course we'll have our passports anyway and the tourist card we'll receive from the airline on the plane. The only thing that will feel like it's "extra" is paying the $200 to the doctor at the resort for the blood test. At one point, I was contemplating whether or not we would jump through the hoops to do it legally, but now that they did away with so many of the challenging aspects we're definitely going the legal route.

We're getting married at Excellence Playa Mujeres so I'm not sure if the situation is different at Now Jade. Hope that helps!
