May 2013 Brides

Hitting up bridesmaids is an awesome idea for a  cheaper dress.. so is hitting up prom dresses as they usuallly come in white as well and can be just as fancy as wedding gowns while still be cheap. But you might know that if you got the orange dress you posted about before??? because that was prom right?
Yep, that's my dress! It's a quinceanera dress, so it takes longer to order and receive than a prom dress, but similar price range. Amy is open to something like that, too, but she wants to be able to try the dress on and make sure she's comfortable. I am ordering my dress without having seen it in person and without being able to try it on. Online shopping provides much more selection, but it does present problems for those who really must try things on first.

Hi kristie! As far as your excursion question I'll give ya some ideas of what I did on our last trip. The Tulum ruins were hands down my fav excursion we took on our last trip to Mexico. If your into that kind of stuff it makes for a great trip. It's fairly cheap too... I think like 5 or 10 pesos if you don't get the tour. Bring your swim suit! It was hot the day we went and I didn't realize you could swim there. There is a little market area outside the ruins where you can browse and buy stuff. We also did xel ha, which is like the cenote Eco park. It was fun. There's a cliff jump, cenotes, and LOTS of snorkeling. It was cool but I wouldn't go back a second time. There are additional activities like swimming with the dolphins but of course they came with extra charges. Playa del Carmen is a nice day trip as well. We stayed iN Tulum and it was like a 30 min ride. Lots of shopping mainly, bars, authentic taco stands and the like. There are also street performers and mariachi bands which adds to the experience and is really neat. This time we plan on doing Aktun Chen, which is close to Tulum. There are cenotes, zip lining, swimming and things like that there. My friend went on our last trip and she got to hold a baby monkey! I was so jealous! It should be a fun thing to do. I'd also like to check out another ruins site on this trip as well, like Coba. There are also several cenote sites in the area I'd like to check out, from what I understand the entrance fees ares pretty cheap. Hope that gives ya some ideas:D hope everyone's plans are coming together! I can't keep up with everyone's posts! It's finals time and I'm tryin my hardest to get another semester done and over with. Then I'll be back at the wedding list, I have lots left to do!

Tulumbride- You are always such a wealth of knowledge! Thanks for all the great ideas

All you May 2013 Brides- Are you hiring a photographer in Mexico or bringing your own photographer down?? From what I can tell it would be just as expensive or even cheaper in a lot of cases to just bring our own photographer down. Then I could have them take pics the whole weekend and I could get out of the vendor fee. Thoughts??

I'm bringing my own. I wasn't too impressed with the photographers in Jamaica except Saab but he was super expensive. I got a great deal from a photographer here at home. So we are bringing her

We are bringing ours down. I did think it would be way expensive, but agree that it's not enough cheaper that we would get one there. We just did our engagement pictures today, and love ours so much (a husband wife team) that we couldn't resist. I also think it's better because you get time to meet, know each other, etc. The pictures are the one thing we'll have to show everyone at home who couldn't come, so we were willing to splurge.

Does your photog have a website? My wedding is just after yours...maybe I can snag her for mine too. I never thought of bringing someone from home. Hmmm...

We're bringing our photographer with us. She's bringing an assistant and covering all of our wedding weekend events (Welcome Reception, catamaran excursion, rehearsal dinner, wedding day & day after TTD shoot) for less than it would have cost us just for just the wedding day of the outside photographer we were considering. We weren't impressed with the resort photographer at all. We had 2 separate shoots for our engagement session so she's had an opportunity to spend time around us and get to know us which I really like. I will say we had to work and negotiate a price that would work for us both. Her 1st quote was not affordable and after talking some more we came to an arrangement acceptable to all.
