Best Dress Style for Full Figures?

I am by no means thin (not fat either, just a nice in between, lol) and I looooove my V-neck/A-line dress. The V-neck gives a great line on my chest and actually even flatters the arm I think, because it kinda breaks it in half so your entire arm isn't just OUT THERE, ya know? Then it comes in at my smallest point, which is my ribs just below my boobs. Then the A-line skirt just sweeps across my waist and hips without being clingy. But I think it just creates a nice hourglass shape.

 

I personally was self conscious about my boobs and arms in a strapless dress because I felt it just sliced me horizontally. Try to find something that has more of a verticle lines (hence why I like the v-neck).

 

I definitely suggest finding a bridal salon that carries Casablanca dresses. They make great V-necks, and they are affordable without looking cheap. My top 3 choices were all Casablanca!

Great advice Janet - a V-neck sounds like a good idea - helps balance all the skin showing on my arms!

 

BTW When I wrote "A-Line" (so generic) I didn't mean the style of dress was generic it just seems like everything I look at says "A-Line" and then they're all different! You did a perfect job descriing your dress!

Yeah- she's crazy to say FF! No way, silly girl I agree with your dress types, I'm not a big girl by any means and could stand to lose a few pounds so I think the types of dresses you suggested make anyone who needs to "lose a few" look better. A rouched waist really helps draw your eye to the side and hids some poofiness!

Again, Kash- you're silly, you're not full-figured, you just have a few pounds to lose! I would definitely avoid empire- that only flatters the super tiny girls! It definitely was not a good look on me...
Sleeves: I vote strapless or halter. I also agree with Janet's post about a v-neck, very flattering.
I'm a traditional girl, so I vote floor length!

I think that so many dresses are classified as A-line, but it really is a flattering line to a dress for so many body types!

Kashmira! You are not Full Figured! Although this horribly thin-obsessed society of ours would say all of us full figured, with a few exceptions. Personally, when you first joined, I thought "she looks like an adventurous athletic gal, I bet she hikes & bikes a lot."

 

I think Tasha had some fab suggestions. My 2 cents: one of the things I really liked about my gown was the way it elongated my waist because the bodice portion of it actually extends down to my hips, so I think it creates a leaner look. I'm not sure of the technical term, but you can see what I mean below.

Christa - You look great on your dress! and I do see what you mean about elongating your waist and making it look so small!

I think your arms look great - athleticis good! But not flabby (which is my concern)- I agree the strapless is working!

 

I think i need to ask Tammy to edit my poll to remove (so generic) from the A-Line part - I think it's confusing people (i.e. I would be confused if I read it!)

Christina the dress looks great on you! Where did you get it? Kash, I am not going dress shopping in Feb. but I am thinking v-neck as well. I think that shape will look better on my not so slim figure.
