DIY STD'S & Invitations VS. Professional Printing Costs

We aren't having pre-rsvp's really.  However, if they go to our website they can do an early rsvp.  We won't send out the real rsvp's until our real STDs.  And then we will send our invitations to those that rsvp'd.  Inititally when we were planning, I was wanting to know a tentative head count way far in advance so I could budget the $ for the wedding.  Since then, I've picked a location that doesn't cost pp for the wedding, it's just an all-inclusive price (regardless of guest count), so I don't care as much anymore LOL.

Are you doing a PRE-RSVP on your save the dates or "pre STD's"? I am thinking I may do something like a "tentative" RSVP on the save dates which the guests can reply to via our wedding website- But I feel most people wouldn't do that. But I really think we would benefit from a pre-RSVP so we can estimate how many guests will be attending.

My FI and I debated on DIY vs professionally done for a long time. I thoroughly enjoy seeing all the brilliant and creative ideas all you lovely ladies have on this site. After finalizing our invite list, we would be sending out about 160 invites. I know myself... I would enjoy making the first 10 or so and then I would get extremely bored and frustrated and I know my FI doesnt have a creative bone in his body, so I would be flying solo. After going to a few bridal shows and price shopping around at different stores, we opted for getting them prof done. They work out to about $3.20/invite and its with embossed and engraved ink. That isn't something I would be able to accomplish. I'm really looking forward to seeing the final product and I will post pics as soon as they are delivered.

Thanks so much ladies for all of your wonderful feedback! I am starting to test some STD's which I printed at home, and they came out great! We got some quotes from a vendor on Etsy and the STD's were not too bad, but when you include cost for those + invites & postage, it can become very pricey. Therefore, we'll probably try DIY STD's and then order passport invitations [those are very time consuming]. But, I have time in between so perhaps I'll try to DIY on those as well. Keep me posted, I'd love to see all of your DIY projects

Hey Shan,

It depends on the website but they typically come in packs of 25, 50 or 100 sheets and youâ€re only required to purchase 1 pack. Price will be determined by the type of cardstock (color, weight finish), but they typically range from $8.99 to 29.99 plus S&H. I have actually purchased a lot of my metallic cardstock from Michaels. I waited for their 5 for $1 sale and used a 20% off entire purchase coupon which is by far the cheapest price that Iâ€ve found ($.16/sheet), and they were actually in the colors I wanted. I totally cleaned them out (went to two Michaels), and probably purchased more than I needed, but I have 60 days to figure it out and make return as I deem nece

Hey there--

How did you know when Michaels was having their 5 for $1 sale?  Do they have that often?

If you sign up for Michael's emails, they will tell you what their sales of the week are! :)

Shan is correct,  but as an additional FYI, they typically start the sale with a 4 for $1, the following week it will be 5 for $1, then 6 for $1 and sometimes 7 for $1, however, if you wait for the best deal than you might also risk limited inventory, because a lot of scrapbookers take advantage of these sales too.
