I don't get it! I've secured my date and price with the Riu Ocho Rios in Jamaica, my travel agent told me I have until December 10 (approx. a month) to fill 30 seats... I am not getting married until November 30, 2013, so approximately a year from now. A month is not a lot of time to get invites sent and leave people enough time to put down a deposit.

What if I have people confirming after the December 10 th deadline?

Our resort (El Dorado Royale) was the same way, but they gave us the option to put down a large deposit to hold those rooms up until 3 months before our wedding date. That way we werent rushed and didnt have to pressure our guests to commit to something so early. Maybe you could do something like this?

We ended up holding 20 rooms, which cost us about $6,000 that they reimbursed us before our final wedding payment was due.

...but I am sending out my boarding pass invitations hopefully tomorrow/Monday.  Our wedding is not until next April 2, 2013.  Although I just booked the resort & the block of rooms last week, many friends have known since last summer that we were planning a DW in April 2013 and that it would be dependent upon the Easter School Break).  Some of us usually vacation together to the Caribbean in the Spring - so this was something "out there & in the works" per say.

We sent out an informal STD via evites.com earlier this week indicating that a formal invitation was to follow soon and we included the link to our wedding website for more details.  On the evite I indicated there was no RSVP necessary at this moment - it was just FYI only....well the feedback has been amazing!  Many yes' & maybe's.

My thought is, since we already know that a lot of our friends & family wish to join us, and they will book right away, why not send the invite??  Those who are planning on it will react right away (book/return RSVP card).  It then gives the maybe's & the no's time to think about it, possibly save, think of ways to make it happen.....My Boarding Pass invites are 5 pages and the last page is a RSVP card they can detach and mail back - I gave them until Jan 2, 2013....it's fun and something they have never seen before and hopefully not something they would forget about (as far as RSVP'ing).

I guess time will tell....it will be interesting to see....maybe send we can send an evite reminder in the fall about the RSVP, in case some tuck it away????  Any thoughts??

Again, I may be nuts, but since I've been working on these invites for 3 1/2 months, I really want them OUT so I can relax and do some more fun DIY projects and planning!!

Thanks for listening/reading  - any feedback welcome!  jiggy.gif

I think you are sending your invites out way too early! You want your invites to be a reminder, so why not spread out yoru save the dates and invites. Also, we had a lot of people that told us they were coming before we send out invites, but when it came down to them paying for the trip, they ended up  not being able to afford it and/or something came up. Close family members didnt end up booking until a couple of months before because its a lot of money to have locked up so far in advance. That being said, we had some people put down deposits after we sent out our save the dates, so we used the invites as a final reminder to book if you hadnt already.

I have a question! We just had our first guest book! So exciting! Wedding is in June 2013, we sent STD's in June 2012. We plan on sending invites along with and RSVP cards with meal choices in January with an RSVP date of mid March... Now my question is, do I send people that have already booked an invite? I don't want to be redundant, but I need their RSVP card b/c it has their meal choice on there. What are my options?

Thanks for your insight, I appreciated it!!  cheesy.gif   Although, yes, I already sent my invites out 6 months ago as I said I might.  Luckily, it proved to be successful for me to do so.  My wedding is less than 5 months away and I have 62 guest booked (including me, my FI & stepson)...with another 10 people in the wings to book....all my guests that I spoke to said they were happy to have the tangible invitation in hand so they could plan their vacations accordingly.  Almost nearly everyone has RSVP'd to date so we are in a good place right now.  My invites were DIY and came out great!  It took the pressure off me to have them done and sent out and allowed me to get to work on all my other DIY projects as well as our OOT bags, survival kits, programs, etc.  Our guests were only required to pay $50 per person as a deposit on the rooms and a lot of them booked their airfare this past summer since we are getting married Easter break.  A very busy travel time for families.

I also sent out my invitations out early. Our wedding is in May and i just out my invitations this month because our room block expires the end of this month. We decided to ask our guests to stay at the Hilton Los Cabo and they are practically SOLD OUT that week in May already. We sent out save the dates out a year before our wedding datel so we hope/hoped our guests would have decided if they are coming or not…..

Fingers crossed!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I sent my STDs 10 months before the wedding.

My super official invites went out about 5 months before the wedding.

However, we kept a mailing list of all of our invitees' e-mail addresses and kept in touch starting 2 weeks after we sent out invites. That allowed us to send booking info and keep in regular contact with updates, reminders, etc.
