Invitations...

Recommended Posts

So our wedding is on 09/01.  We just finalized the group block of rooms and our guests are starting to book... However, I haven't sent out an "official" invitation.  Did that happen to any of you?  And, if so , how did you handle it?  I was thinking about sending out more of an informational invitation/booklet...

Thoughts??

absolutely. Our group booked in late January after we sent out our electronic STD and "book your room". We had to do that in order to firm up our room block and get the promo rate at the resort. We are still planning to send out formal invites as our date gets closer. I don't think the formal invites are required or even needed at this point. When I think wedding, I think invites and I don't want to skip it just because we chose to get married in Mexico. So it's a personal choice for me. I will include them with more of a pre-travel brochure or info for those who are going (and will still send invites to those we asked to go but aren't able to join us).

I THINK I MAY BE CRAZY, please please be honest!!!!

...but I am sending out my boarding pass invitations hopefully tomorrow/Monday.  Our wedding is not until next April 2, 2013.  Although I just booked the resort & the block of rooms last week, many friends have known since last summer that we were planning a DW in April 2013 and that it would be dependent upon the Easter School Break).  Some of us usually vacation together to the Caribbean in the Spring - so this was something "out there & in the works" per say.

We sent out an informal STD via evites.com earlier this week indicating that a formal invitation was to follow soon and we included the link to our wedding website for more details.  On the evite I indicated there was no RSVP necessary at this moment - it was just FYI only....well the feedback has been amazing!  Many yes' & maybe's.

My thought is, since we already know that a lot of our friends & family wish to join us, and they will book right away, why not send the invite??  Those who are planning on it will react right away (book/return RSVP card).  It then gives the maybe's & the no's time to think about it, possibly save, think of ways to make it happen.....My Boarding Pass invites are 5 pages and the last page is a RSVP card they can detach and mail back - I gave them until Jan 2, 2013....it's fun and something they have never seen before and hopefully not something they would forget about (as far as RSVP'ing).

I guess time will tell....it will be interesting to see....maybe send we can send an evite reminder in the fall about the RSVP, in case some tuck it away????  Any thoughts??

Again, I may be nuts, but since I've been working on these invites for 3 1/2 months, I really want them OUT so I can relax and do some more fun DIY projects and planning!!

Thanks for listening/reading  - any feedback welcome!  jiggy.gif

Personnally I think you're sending your invites out WAY too early. You're definitely excited which is awesome!!! However the point of the save the date is for people to start planning. If they got the save the date they'll get the invite. Early save the dates are great so they can start arranging travel, vacation, saving money, etc... Nothing is stopping them from booking now so let them book away! Maybe put all your information on a website so they can start planning. The invite is more of a formality and should go out closer to the wedding. Since you sent the save the dates no one should get hte invite and say, "darn! I wish I had known!".

I don't think you're crazy! :-) I understand how you want to get them off your plate already. I was obsessive with mine and had to put them away and not look at them for a few months until I was ready to print and DIY so I wouldn't go crazy.

I think you should send them in the late fall if you're giving an RSVP date of January 2. If invites sit around too long, people will just forget/lose/misplace them. Give people a few months to think and save and ponder. Don't take the yes's as an answer until they're actually booked. Things don't always work out how people hope.

We sent STDs 15 months out and invites were sent 5 months out, but we didn't have an RSVP date for the wedding. For AHR invites (people who weren't invited to the wedding), we sent them 7 weeks before, with a ten-day prior RSVP date.

I don't think you're too early at all! I'm sending out mine in the next week or two, and I'm gettign married in March.  We didn't do save the dates though.  Everyone's been asking when the invites are going out so theyre all expecting them.

Thank you, CIndy2013!

My FI & I have had our date set (well, the month and year at least) since last summer of 2011.  We did not get officially engaged until Christmas 2011, so all of our friends were the same way, asking where the invitations were. We sent them out over a week ago & I already have 4 couples booked!  Along with 2 additional YES RSVP's & one NO.  Everyone loved them & thought they were so unique.  (Thanks to the wonderful ideas on this site!).  I know I am WAY EARLIER than the norm, but my crowd was grateful for them!

Let me know how you make out!  xoxo

Elissa

I've decided to go ahead and make my own passport invites, thanks to this amazing site!  I think they'll turn out well, I made the template this weekend and have it all written up!  I am waiting on my paper to come in,  and then off to the races I go...getting them printed, cut, and bound.  I really hope they'll be exactly what I picture in the end..I'll post them when I'm done!
