Hi There,

My fiance and I are seriously considering being married at the RIU Guanacaste in April of next year.  I have been in contact with Barbara from RIU a few times and want some input from people who have been married there.  Below are a few questions I currently have but I welcome other input as well (I have never done this before......eeeeek)

1) Most interested in sunset beach ceremony.  Anyone here been married on beach at RIU? How was your experience?

2) I am concered about the "semi private" reception.  Does anyone know how they set this up?  Anyone paid for a private reception? How much was it?  Was it worth it?

3) Decorations, centerpieces, ect, ect.  Who handles all of this?  If the hotel does, do they ask you what you want?

Thanks in advance for any input that can be provided. I really appreciate it!

i've just came back from Riu and I loved it. I even met with wedding coordinator who gave me a tour.

So, the beach has a voulcanic sand,so it is not white rather brownish. the beach ceremony is set up between two trees.

the reception is in one of the three restaurants they have, so it may means you will be sharing it with other guests. She told me I could paid extra and have a private reception at their conference centre, but i dont know how much. She told me all info is on riu website but i didnt find pricing for upgrates. I think hotel handels decorations. hope that helps

I would love to hear people's experiences regarding Riu, too!  I am planning a May 2013 wedding there.  I just started the process, and I am left wondering how all this works, too.  It is supposed to be less stress, but not having done this before I am left feeling lost on how all it works....

Hi there,

I have attended two weddings at RIU Guanacaste in the last two weeks. It's a nice resort, typical all-inclusive deal, right on the beach. They are currently building a huge extension so there's a bit of construction noise just now but that should be finished in the next few months. I'm a musician and I played for the ceremony of both weddings right on the beach, then the latin jazz group Los Mojitos played for the reception. You can see photos of the resort and the ceremony at the website livemusicincostarica.com and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Good luck with your wedding!

I'm a Canadian musician and I live close to Riu Guanacaste. I've played there several times for beach ceremonies and dance receptions. I think it's a great location for destination weddings, close to Liberia Airport, beautiful darker sand beach and with good restaurants.
