Very Long - ROR Bad Wedding Experience

Recommended Posts

If you go to tripadvisor, every resort you'll find some negative reviews. But if you look at the # of overall reviews and the rating of the resort, you wonder if these people stayed at the same place or not? I warned my guests on my wedding website that they'll be on Island time, everyone is very laid back, so just relax and pay some respect to others and they'll receive the same respect back.

oh no gkashmira........this didn't happen to me. I found this review online and just wanted to share it with you guys. I've been to this resort before I even got engaged......not knowing that this would be the place that I would get married. The resort is beautiful!!! But yes, i must admit that the service can be a little cold.

not to sound snarky but alot of her complaints are petty...like the fruit basket or the upgrade that they were never guaranteed...also, hotels cant guarantee requests like room placement...so much has to do with when people check in and out.

and the complaint about the driver/flight: im not sure how that relates to the hotel.

Thanks for sharing the review you found. I honeymooned there and my experience was truly different than the complainer's. Time isn't money in all parts of the world and we appreciated their laid back approach there - we were there to relax and as someone else said, having the right attitude means everything, no matter where you go.

We were offfered drugs by several people but it wasn't a dangerous situation, they ask nicely and leave you alone. Actually we were only offered ganja (which is a religious practice for many, but not all, people there) and I don't know if they push real drugs too. Overall we were treated very well. They did think my husband was Jamaican (until he opened his mouth...lol) but I think it was our relaxed mode and joy just to be there that eliminated service problems. The people who get treated poorly are probably the unreasonable rude Americans that we encountered around the resort. There were mainly Europeans when we went but boy could you spot the Americans complaining and perpetuating the stereotypes from a mile away.

I don't think you RIU brides should worry about this or other bad reviews. Just pack your party hats and catch the Island vibe.

I feel like some people are just so incredibly demanding, we stayed at Couples in Jamaica and had a great honeymoon and thought the people in Jamaica were great. yes they are pushy about tips, and offer you some stuff to smoke, but honestly I thought the people on and off the resort were awesome. I didn't stay at the RUI but on our plane ride home sat with some people who did, and when the entire hotel's air went out they quickly relocated everyone and made sure they had a good quality experience as well as offering their guests who were displaced a stay in the future. I have to say that is customer service and I think those are the types of things brides should focus on.

Sometimes you just have to roll with it.

I have read this review once before, and I still feel the same. I personally feel they took to much effort to complain. RELAX its your wedding/ honeymoon. His 3 big concerns were. 1. Not getting the upgrade, UMMM hello, its not automatic if its available at checkin you MIGHT get it. But dont tell me that if someone was arriving the same day who PAID FOR THE jacuzzi suite to begin with that you should get it just cause YOU emailed the hotel and your a RIU class card holder. You want the full suite that bad book it that way!!! 2. The rooms were not all next to each other. There are over 800 ROOMS in this resort. People come and go everyday. Maybe you might luck out and get 2 or 3 rooms somewhat close together but all your rooms?? Your dreaming!! Also if your GUESTS paid for an OCEAN view then YOU should not have upgraded them to JR suites, Not ALL Jr. Suites are ocean front/view. 3. What normal person dressed in their wedding attire goes to complain about a freakin fruit basket/ suprise gifthuh.gif?? Ok.... Now I have stayed at the Riu before and Yes they do need some improvement in the customer service dept. It was not every employee that I encountered but a few, but NOTHING happened to keep me from going back again for my WEDDING!! I cant wait to go back, I have 2 1/2 weeks left and I am counting the seconds. Ladies you must remember that this is JAMAICA, They REALLY do live by the motto no problem mon. They take EVERYTHING in stride, People will be selling smoking drugs in the open, you will find some employees moving very very slow from smoking the ganja....lol I am from jersey when I go to FL I freak out cause people are so slow, but in beautiful Jamaica I just relax and go with the flow and take in every single second and cherish the relaxation way of life!!!! No problem Mon!!!!
