Wedding party expenses- what are brides & grooms paying for?

Recommended Posts

So far our plans are to pay for the bridesmaids makeup at the salon/spa, I'm getting them each a necklace and a cutemakeup bag with little essentials for the wedding day: lashes, markup remover wipes, a nail file, blotting tissues and maybe 1 or 2 more little items. If budget allows we'll also treat them to a manicure at the spa. For the guys, I think we are getting them each a mini camcorder. We have 8 guys, I only have 4 girls so the guys get 1 more expensive gift vs the girls getting several smaller gifts.

We did deposits for the first 10 people to book (including us)... so far his best man and his wife booked, so we did that, and I strongly encouraged my girls to book too. That is all we will be doing travel-wise.

We are paying for attire completely, except shoes. So far we have the best man's shirt, and we have our eyes on the bm dresses. I am giving the girls flip flops and barefoot jewelry I made, but they can wear whatever they want on their feet. The plan is to pay for their hair too at the resort.

I am also paying for a couple spa treatments prior to leaving, and giving them gifts as well, including some jewelry that they can wear for the wedding, or not. lol.

Have definitely depends on your finances, and maybe the number of people you have in your bridal party. We aren't paying for their trip. I bought the BM their dresses and getting their hair and make up done, plus a little keep sake. Doing a similar thing for the GM

Good idea :)

I had wanted to do that originally, but my sister is way too young (she's 12). When I took her wedding dress shopping and she was bored-out-of-her-freaking-mind, I realized she wouldn't enjoy being included in any of the preparation part.

I still plan to have her in the ceremony, but I feel like the MOH position would be better suited for a friend who could help me drown my wedding planning troubles in a bottle of wine.

I hear you because my sister is 16 years old and I know she won't be much help either but I can live with that. My mother is very heavily involved in the planning so it helps a lot and makes up for it.

Ditto. My sister is my maid of honour and is 17 and in the middle of grad planning. She is trying to be supportive of wedding stuff, but just isn't there. I asked a friend to be a bridesmaid, but then my resort changed to adults only (and she has a 3 month old) so she is not actually coming. However, she said she still wants to be involved in pre wedding stuff and our ahr.

I have been doing everything on my own, but my bridesmaid has thrown me a shower and is planning the stagette. It is tough when your maid of honour is underage. I know if I need help, I can talk to my FMIL. Plus my wedding is small; I am okay doing things on my own. Plus my FI is super supportive.

I guess it all depends on what your expectations are for a maid of honour. Anyone I would consider does not live closer than 2 hours away anyway; I would be doing it on my own regardless.
