We also are NOT paying for travel expences of the wedding part because they are after all, get a pretty sweet vacation out of it as well!  I am however thinking about paying for the dresses of my 3 bridesmaid as they are all relatively tight on cash, and that would be done in place of a bridesmaid gift. I will still problaby get something small, 20-30 dollar range for nice matching necklaces, but that will all also depend on weather the girls want to keep the dresses after or if I will be free to sell them... And they will also have the option of saving money on a hairdresser as my FI sister is a hairdresser and has offered to do our hair.

I definitely do not think that you need to pay for their accommodations.  We are not paying for our wedding party.  We are however, paying for their wedding day attire.  Which will be about $200/pp.  We are also getting them a gift.  I feel that is fair enough.  Our wedding party is mostly made up of siblings, so they didn't even want us to pay for their attire.  Just let your party pay for themselves.  The 2 DW's I have been to, I paid for myself.  I don't think they will expect you guys to do it.

We aren't paying for hotel and flight. The weddings I have been to, I've had to pay my own flight, hotel, attire, hair, etc. I think if you buy a nice gift and pitch in for wedding attire (or find something inexpensive) that should be fine.

I'm doing the opposite of a lot of you ladies — I'm not getting anyone a gift, and I'm not paying for anyone's hair, makeup, or clothes.  But I am planning to rent a villa using vrbo.com so that my close friends and family won't have to pay for accommodations. It's very cost effective, I think something like 1/2 the cost of them booking hotel rooms individually.  I think it all depends on knowing your family and friends well and thinking about what they would appreciate the most.
