How did your mom react when she saw you in your wedding gown?

Funny how we all have these expectations of our moms crying and emotional over us in a wedding dress and none of them did that. Where did the expectations come from? As long as we get the dresses we are happy with and make us feel good, I guess it doesn't matter how others react. Maybe the look on FI face when he sees me in my dress is all that matters.

I started dress shopping with friends. My mom lives 2 hours away, so she wanted me to have it narrowed down when she came to Philly. I fell in love with 2 Nicole Millers, so she came to see them. She usually loves shopping, so I was surprised she wasn't enthused about dress shopping. When she saw the dresses, she was less than excited about either one (both non-traditional). I didn't buy either because she didn't give me the right reaction.

I then went to her to shop. The first dress she saw me in (which I hated), she got a little misty-eyed. I think it was just the 'first dress' reaction - she said she didn't like the dress, but was wowwed by my wearing a wedding dress. When I tried on THE dress, we both knew it was the right one. That being said, she didn't cry (and she is very emotional). She actually just seemed relieved that we didn't have to go to another store - lol - it was the second store. I think on my wedding day she'll cry when she sees me, but I was definitely disappointed that she wasn't more excited about dress shopping. This is a woman who can powershop the malls with the best of them.

Every person is different. I have a friend who took her mom with her and got zero reaction except for, You look nice.

On the wedding day though, the mom freaked and was like, you look so beautiful!

When I went for my dress fitting and found The One, the dress that I just felt like a princess in, I came out of the fitting room and my mom's entire face lit up! She was more excited than me and kept making everyone in the store come look at me in the dress. LOL. She was so funny about it.

I wouldn't read too much into it. It's your wedding and you need to pick out the dress that makes you feel like a rockstar!

My mom kinda had no reaction, except that's too much money. I found my dress in the 1st shop that we went to like 8 months ago. I thought it ws too much too, so we looked at like every shop that I could find, but I kept going back to that one dress. Nothing could compare. So after going back to be sure that after 8 months I remembered it as great as it was (and it was!), I bought it. I had her come with me the next day to sign the contract and she loves it and everything, agrees it is def the best dress for me, but still thinks I shouldn't have gotten it, since it was out of my price range.

I think your mom will feel differently when she sees you on your WEDDING DAY! She may not cry (I am pretty sure my mom won't), but as a whole, when everything is all together, how could she not be happy, just seeing how happy you are.

I wouldn't read anything into her reaction though, you are going to look beautiful! And it's only 26 days away!!!! Wow, congrats, so exciting!

the same thing happened to me and my mom was kind of snotty to the saleslady because she thought it was too expensive. I was so embarrassed, I'm like MOM, she doesn't make the prices! It really annoyed me.

I did sort of agree that my dress was too much, I wanted to only spend 1000 or less and it was 1500. But I really loved the dress. It was a maggie sottero limited dress so there are no pictures of it anywhere but I ended up finding a picture of it that someone was selling and looked at it everyday. When I went back to look at the maggie site and looked through every dress to find something similar, I found the limited dress I had wanted, but the bottom was different and it was half the price, so I was really excited and thats the one I ended up buying!

I didn't read the other posts on this but wanted to tell my mom/dress story.

I had my dress choice narrowed down by the time my mom came with. There were 2 from one store and 1 from another. When we got to the first store I was just going to show my mom one of the two to save time but my mom was browsing and the only dress she pulled out was my second dress. I had to try it on.

I put on the second dress and my mom said beautiful. I then put on my first choice dress and my mom said she liked the first one better. My heart dropped bc I already knew I wanted my first choice one. Showing mom was more of a formality. My dress helper girl knew how I was feeling and suggested I try the other dress on to compare. Thank god! Once I tried the dress on again my mom could see I was right. She told me that she thought that she was so excited to see me in a wedding dress that she fell in love w the first one.

That said - she didn't cry or anything. I could tell she liked it, but no water works. And she is a crier too. It threw me at first, but then I got over it. I didn't even cry when I found the dress and I'm a crier.
