Did you manage to get any alone time after your destination wedding?

Recommended Posts

If you're able to get away to another resort, I would highly suggest it. The reality is your friends and family are going to be so excited for you both and are undoubtedly going to want to spend time with you if they see you walking around the resort. We spent the day after the wedding with our group but then headed to St. Lucia for a solid week of Mr. & Mrs. time. It really is nice to have that time to connect after being the host of such an amazing week with friends and family. You'll be the superstars to everyone which is fabulous but it also calls for some hosting responsibilities. If you're anything like me, I was never completely able to turn off the, "I just want to make sure everyone is having a good time" feeling (I mean, how couldn't they be...they were in paradise!

No matter how much I worried, everyone was having so much fun - it didn't warrant the worrying that I did. This is also why having some extra time with the new Mr. will be important - just to decompress, talk about all of the excitement of the week and enjoy each other before getting back home. I'm pretty sure we spent 90% of the time on our honeymoon, laughing and reminiscing about the week of friends in family - all in one place to celebrate us. It'll truly be amazing and rest assured, it'll all work out no matter what!

I'm not sure if you're looking for a more "romantical" option to spend a few days, but I after doing our Trash the Dress shoot our photographers (Del Sol) suggested we spend a few days at Le Reve Hotel & Spa and it was like we were worlds away! Here's my review below if you're interested (with pics!)

Best of luck and remember, it'll all be perfect, even if you have to see Uncle Bob at breakfast the next morning :-)

Since beaches and pools and restaurants are public areas where everybody goes.

Of course i don't want to ditch my friends and family who've made such an effort to come...but id like our first day as newly weds to just be the two of us. I can't tell if thats selfish? Or people will completely understand? I can just imagine going to a restaurant and seeing people at the table...and then it would feel odd walking to a different one. I know the other days we will be doing everything as a group!

Or do good manners dictate we wait until we get home for our alone time? Part of me thinks one day isnt unreasonable, and part of me doesnt want to seem rude!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

We will be spending the entire week with all of our guests because of the same reason. I felt guilty leaving them during the week. We will then take a honeymoon to a different island by ourselves when our guest fly back to Houston. That way we get our time in with them and ourselves. Our family is timeshare owners so it is much easier and cheaper for us to do this-if we had to pay regular resort fees there is not way we'd take 2 weeks!

  • 1 year later...

OMG this was a huuuuge issue for us.

We had 37 guests total and we managed to get all of them to the rehearsal dinner. After that however, everyone kept asking us "where's the beach, are you coming, when is dinner, what are you doing today" and finally we said "we'd like to spend some time alone". We arrived at the resort 2 days before the wedding so we spent the days leading up the wedding with our guests. After the wedding we told them to expect us to slip away and while not everyone got the hint- a few of the ones who did gently suggested to others that they should leave us alone.

Our hotel upgraded us to a swim up suite so we had our own private pool section and one day we invited everyone over. It was the most fun we had. Ultimately- we spent the day with our guests at the beach or pool and eating at the buffets, but dinner was just for the two of us. Our hotel was quite large and had a "hotel within a hotel" a boutique hotel within the larger resort. We all stood in the boutique hotel. If I had it to do all over, I would have everyone stay at the main resort leading up to the wedding- including us, and then I would slip away to the boutique hotel.

We are having a delayed honeymoon in a few months to an exotic locale. We are crossing our fingers for Thailand, so we did not consider the wedding to be our honeymoon. That made it a little easier to spend time with our guests.

We've taken vacations together, so it isn't that big a deal for us. We would rather have close friends and family to have a fun time with than be alone. To each their own, though! Perhaps plan a spa day for the two of you with a couples massage for some alone time?

My fiance and our families are going to the resort where our wedding is for a week.  After they leave, we are hopping over to a different resort for 4 more nights of relaxation and QT!

My FH and I are staying June 11th-20th and I have our TA only telling the guests June 13th-18th that way we get a few days alone without everyone else around. Hopefully they all do that.....mostly my FMIL b/c she's being a complete pain
