Your reasons for having a destination wedding?

3) We are paying for the wedding ourselves, and we believe a destination wedding will be cheaper than the equivalent affair in expensive Washington, DC!

4) Our guests come from a variety of different parts of our lives, and the groups don't really know each other. I like the idea of having several days leading up to our wedding date (a Sunday on a long weekend) for everyone to get to know each other before the Main Event!

So true! It is the most fun, exciting and fashionable way of celebrating the happiest day in a woman's life- in paradise!

Our choice of a destination wedding is a little different then everyone else's.

We got engaged in July this summer, shortly after the engagement my fiancé had a horrible motorcycle accident which put him into the intensive care unit for a full month where I was just forced to hold my breath and wait. He miraculously overcame six surgeries and was able to walk out of the hospital 3 month after his accident. As of now he has about a year of rehabilitation and therapy to go through and we knew as soon as he is fully recovered we wanted to celebrate in a HUGE way. We decided on a destination wedding for us and our family because it will be a week long celebration of life together. After everything we have gone through it will be an amazing feeling to relax in paradise with family and friends we love.

Our first trip together was to Jamaica and thats also where we fell in love with the destination and each other. We set the date for April 2014 and pray he will be fully recovered by then :)

This is a picture of us in Jamaica a few years ago, and there other one is of us now.

After speaking with friends who had traditional weddings & the average costs were half of our annual salary..it was a no brainer for us!!! We love to travel and feel everyone should experience a great vaca and we knew our close fam and friends would NEVER organize a trip on their own so we did it for them!!! Lol ..I'm very much a beach girl and there are none close to us here in Memphis and we are from Chicago. I couldn't spend a fortune on a wedding and risk being stressed and broke in the end!!! Uniting family and friends plus weddingmoon all in one and cutting our costs by at least 70% was enough for us!!!

totally agree! it's insane how expensive the in-country weddings can be! we're doing an all-inclusive resort, and one expense i was NOT expecting for the destination wedding is paying for people's food at the "private event" wedding reception -- seems crazy given that everyone has technically "paid" for their food, no?

My reasons for a destination wedding

1) we love to travel

2) Having a wedding in NY would be expensive for us considering that we are paying for it ourselves

3) I have family back in D.R. and wouldnt be able to attend my wedding in the states. His family on the other hand, are all over this country and love to travel as well

4) My FI has a BIG family, having a destination wedding would mean not everyone can make it. we are inviting 80 of our closes family and friends .

We love to travel and did not want to spend the money on an expensive wedding at home.

Let's be honest we feel obligated to invite people we typically don't associate with, family that you really didn't know you had then you end up running around all night thanking all these people they came and miss the fun of what you paid for. Now don't get me wrong, I loved and enjoyed every wedding I have attended, just not for me, especially now....

Our priorities in life are different, we have been together over 8 years, we have a 5 year old daughter and own a home. In other words, less money on wedding --- put $ in college fund and house improvements! :)

In June our closest family and friends will be there to share in our day and we would not have it any other way. We can't wait!!!!
