That is my reason for doing a destination wedding. most likely all of us are spending a pretty penny. But at least you get to stretch it out. I cannot even emagine spending 10K on a one day where you dont even get to see everyone.

Our choice of a destination wedding is a little different then everyone else's.

We got engaged in July this summer, shortly after the engagement my fiancé had a horrible motorcycle accident which put him into the intensive care unit for a full month where I was just forced to hold my breath and wait. He miraculously overcame six surgeries and was able to walk out of the hospital 3 month after his accident. As of now he has about a year of rehabilitation and therapy to go through and we knew as soon as he is fully recovered we wanted to celebrate in a HUGE way. We decided on a destination wedding for us and our family because it will be a week long celebration of life together. After everything we have gone through it will be an amazing feeling to relax in paradise with family and friends we love.

Our first trip together was to Jamaica and thats also where we fell in love with the destination and each other. We set the date for April 2014 and pray he will be fully recovered by then :)

This is a picture of us in Jamaica a few years ago, and there other one is of us now.

Wow! What an amazing story. Both pics are awesome! Since its down the road, you should have no problem getting guests to head there to partake in your celebration- as I'm sure they will want to after the obstacles you have endured together.

While saving money is a big reason for people to have destination weddings- even though yours is different, at the heart of it, your reasons are similar to some brides and grooms- the idea that you want to celebrate with the closest of friends and family-Congratulations on your engagement. You are going to have a phenomenal wedding. Hope your fiance recovers quickly from his injuries!

Best wishes to both of you.  I am so glad he is recovering!  I can so relate to that terror.  My fiance was in a skiing accident and broke his jaw, along with most of the bones in his face, in February, and somehow came away without the brain damage that was likely. It is terrifying waiting to know if it's all going to be okay - I waited days, you have to be the strongest person in the world to last a month.  Your story is going to be one with a very happy ending.  So happy for you.

Thank you very much! Yes in the end the reasons are the same just the motivation is different. From reading all the planning blogs I'm also looking forward for stress free planning. I know if I opted for a wedding in town I would have way too much on my plate with planning.

It is the scariest and most stressful thing to go through! You are a strong woman too! My fiancé also escaped brain damage which was amazing. So happy we came to the decision of a destination wedding for many reasons but on top of that this site has has so many wonderful and positive words from brides and future brides, I'm looking forward for every moment of it!

1) We love to travel! Having a destination really is just so "us".

2) We have so, so many people to invite! This is one way to whittle the list down to our closest 60-70 friends and family.

3) We are paying for the wedding ourselves, and we believe a destination wedding will be cheaper than the equivalent affair in expensive Washington, DC!

4) Our guests come from a variety of different parts of our lives, and the groups don't really know each other. I like the idea of having several days leading up to our wedding date (a Sunday on a long weekend) for everyone to get to know each other before the Main Event!
