Your reasons for having a destination wedding?

My fiancé is from London, England and I'm from Toronto, Canada.  We live in Canada now, and rather than have just his family and friends fly over here or have all my side fly over there we decided that we make it fair and have everyone travel.  It's also a great way for our family and friends to get to know each other, and everyone is really looking forward to a holiday.

My FI and I knew before we were even engaged that we wanted to do a destination wedding

And since we live in Canada weddings can be extremely expensive around here; anywhere from 20k-150k for all expenses around here! It also gave us a chance to have a 2 week vacay !! First week with family and friends then the next just the 2 of us ️ Everyone loved the idea as well so that really sealed the deal!

My fiance grew up in Jamaica, so that is an obvious reason!

 

We are also fairly non-traditional and like that a DW gives you more freedom to break the rules. People have less expectations of what is normal, and are just so excited to be in a beautiful location having fun that the little details don't matter as much.

 

We also live in Chicago where even a moderate wedding costs $60k-$70k. I will gladly spend a fraction of that to spend a WEEK with our guests instead of one day.

 

We both also feel the most as peace when we're at the beach.

 

So it was a complete no-braner to us!
