Transat (Tour Operator) 2012/2013 Wedding Packages

Has anyone seen the new 2012/2013 "Wedding Collection" Catalogue from Transat? I just received one at a wedding show, and didn't think a whole lot of it until I started looking more closely.

They offer 3 of their own "exclusive" wedding packages that are simpler, and more affordable than some of the packages the resorts offer. Just comparing the wedding package at the hotel I'm looking at (Ocean Blue & Sand), to the three packages they offer for the various hotels they work with (Ocean Blue being one of them)....it looks like a better deal for sure!

I'm just afraid it is too good to be true, or that there is a catch. What does everyone else think? Has anyone booked this, or looked into it further?

If you don't have a cataloque, check it out online:

http://www.transatholidays.com/EN/Travel/Our-weddings?ID=927&ParentID=interet

It does say you have to have 12 passengers booked southbound and northbound on the same flight/same gateway. That there, may mean I can't use it unfortunately. I will have 20+ guests at least I believe, but they could be spread out over 3 gateways across Canada.

Just wanted people to be aware of this, as it does look like a great deal (potentially)...and I am wondering what everyone thinks of it.

Cheers!

Alicia

We looked into Transats wedding packages when we choose them for our travel.  Ultimately, we ended up going with the resort packages just because the wedding planners are way more familiar with their own packages rather then transats.  Also, our travel agent advised us to use the resorts if at all possible, just because it can be way more to deal with when you are dealing with transat for the wedding packages plus the resort.  In the end we choose to go with the resort just because it was a lot more simple.

We are using the euphoria package through transat for barcelo maya. The package is $1500 vs $3500 with the resort. But there were some things not included like $20/person over 24 people and then $27.50/person (for everybody not just over 20 people) to have a beach reception. Bit the resort charges $66 extra per person over 15. The reception is only 2 hours vs 3 hours and you pay per person for extra hour and 3 courses vs 4 courses. You get a cocktail hour and the resort package doesn't have that. I used that to substitute an extra hour and course for the reception.  Are you confused yet? We ended up saving $2000 but there was a LOT of math to figure out what was included, extra charges and such. You'll have to contact your resorts WC to figure it out for yourself

Yeah, I think depending on the pricing and person limit/extra pp. charge of the resort - these packages with Transat can save a lot of money. For me with Ocean Blue, for example (my top choice resort right now) it costs 1300.00 more through the hotel, and the transat package includes a couple of extra perks.

I'll certainly have to figure out which was is best once I narrow it down to a final resort choice. If it saves me over $1000.00 it might be worth it to have to deal with both Transat AND the resort to save the money. I'll just be sure to get everything in writing, with pictures/examples through email to be clear....and bring it all with me so there are no surprises, or extra charges.
