So ladies my FI and I are discussing paying for our church deacon to marry us in the chapel in Gran Caribe. Only concern is he doesnt have a passport either, so what's your advise on paying for the passport also? Is that our responsibility also? It's already going to be pricey flying him out :( but we really want him to be the one to marry us. HELP!

Hi ladies,

So I did something a little crazy.  I bought a new wedding dress!  I loved the Priscilla dress I originally bought, but I think I bought it too far out and had too much time to look at other dresses. I ended up posting my Prscilla dress on here to try to find a new home.  Here is a picture of my new dress (the picture isn't great but you'll get the idea).  Its Wtoo style Natalia.

Hey ladies, I am just getting started planning my wedding with gran caribe. It seems difficult to communicate with the wedding coordinator that I was assigned to. She'll respond to my email every few days. Has this been others experiences? Also I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share the total amount they are spending. I'm waiting for the resort to give me a quote of the royal catholic package plus a private cocktail hour and reception for 50 guests, but that has been like pulling teeth. Maybe they don't do quotes ?? Thanks so much!

Hey girls!! I had my wedding at GCR chapel and reception at trade winds beach on Feburary 24th 2012. It was absolutely beautiful and we are all still talking about that day! However, communication before was very difficult. They don't really pay much attention to you, until the few months or weeks before your actual wedding. But rest assurred that they will make your wedding a breath taking experience. Let them do their thing... Just make sure you keep track of the desicions and prices you decide (print those emails and keep in a folder to bring down) They get things mixed up all over the place. But if your laid back (unlike me) you will be fine. Because they do a great job with what they do! But they WILL rip you off if your not on top of your stuff!!! I have to tell you this: We decided to not do a cocktail hour. It stressed me out like crazy because she was trying to tell me it wouldn't work. Then, when we had our meeting with her upon arrival, she stated that there would be a charge "event seperation fee" $400. I flipped and dug into my old emails for hours (spent a whole day on this) to prove that i was never told this. She ended up letting that go and It was absolutely FINE to not have one. Saved us $400... I had the champagne toast, (that's included in catholic package) Immediately following the ceremony. We all had our champagne and headed to the beach to take pictures (all 47 of us) the next thing we know, it's the start of the reception (6pm) Greeted with blue drinks and DJ Ivan took over. DJ Ivan and DJDOREMIX is amazing! We ended at 9pm. Did not purchase the extra hour and it was perfect. I'm so glad we saved $800 by choosing not to have the cocktail hour and not to have an extra hour. After, we headed to the club for bottle service with our extra $$ :) I wouldn't change any of that and I hope this little bit of advice helps you!

Hey Girls! One question for those of you who have visited and/or already had their wedding! I would say a majority of our guests are going to stay at The Royal but there will definitely be some that stay at the Gran Caribe (including my sister who is my MOH) since she has children. I just wanted your opinion if you felt it was a problem or hassle to see those guests during your stay. I know that it is a different resort and the policies associated with visiting but wanted to know the reality of it. This is probably the biggest stress for me. Please let me know your thoughts/opinions/experiences with this!

I had about half of my guests stay in the Gran Caribe and the other half in the Royal.  Some of them without children actually upgraded to the Royal when they arrived, as they offer the option if they have open rooms at the Royal, and it is cheaper than initially booking the Royal.  I believe it was $70-$80 for 2 people to upgrade for a night.  If anyone is on the fence about which hotel to stay at, encourage them to upgrade, we all thought it was well worth it.

It was kind of a pain to visit the other guests, because it meant leaving the beautiful Royal!  The facilities and food at the Royal made it hard to leave.  One way around this was that we would wake up early on most days and put our beach stuff in the large canaba on the Royal's beach.  All the cabanas on the beach were reserved for the presidential and penthouse suites, but there was one really large one that wasn't reserved, and it was great to have for shade.  Some of our Caribe guests would come hang out in the gazebo with us, and we'd get their drinks, and we never had a problem with them being told to leave.  However, that was the only time they were allowed over.  RIGHT after my wedding they were all kicked out of the Royal!  I wanted to continue the party at the lobby bar for a bit, but they would not allow anyone to stay, not even for a half hour.  I'd recommend having an after party at one of the bars accross the street, such as Margaritaville, because the weddings end so early and it is HOT in the Caribe lobby bar area.

It's definitely do-able for you to see your guests staying at the Caribe, but it will most likely have to be you sacrificing time at the Royal to visit them at the Caribe.
