Key West Wedding? Hyatt vs. Old Town Manor?....saving on catering?

Hi All!

I'm newly engaged and looking for help on planning my Key West wedding. We are aiming for 60 - 75 people for Feb. 2013 celebration. We are planning on having a traditional Catholic ceremony at St. Mary Star of the Sea. Now we are looking for a reception venue that is fun and won't break the bank.

What is a better option? Should I do the reception at a hotel like the Hyatt or Ocean Key which is a one-stop shop  (food, AV, alcohol) Or should I pick a venue with more flexibility like the Old Town Manor  where you can bring your own alcohol and choose your own caterer?

How much do you actually save when you can choose outside catering companies and bring in your own alcohol? Is it too much work for a bride far away from Key West to try to juggle all these elements and find different vendors?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS,

Betty

Hi Betty,

As far as Old Town Manor you do have a little more flexiablity of the costs because you can bring in your own beverage and that really saves alot. Looking at Hyatt and Ocean Key you are going to spend $150-$180.00 per person and bring in your own cater you would stay about 120.00-150.00 per person. Old Town Manor is a great venue and location so close to Duval. But Ocean Key and Hyatt have those beautiful ocean view and both have fantastic food and service. We would love to talk more with you.

Give us a call....

Hmmm, I would think that it would be much easier to go to a "one stop shop" as you called it rather then having to gather all the details.  unless you hire a WC to handle it all.  If you have the funds to hire a WC, then I would go with whatever location offers the ambiance that is most important to you.

I am planning my wedding at Old Town Manor as well. They are very helpful! They now have a bar option- it is still bring your own- but they can pick it up for you for a small $50.00 fee which is for the storage (but who wants to store it in their room anyways). They also get a little discount on some of the prices.

I booked my wedding at the Hyatt...for me it just seemed much easier to have a 1 stop shop!  We're having enough trouble trying to pick a place for the rehearsal dinner since we've never been there, so I can't imagine trying to pick a venue and a separate caterer, etc.  Lindsey at the Hyatt has been really helpful and is really quick answering all of my questions too!
