Afternoon beach wedding in June: too hot?

Hi all!

My fiance and I are getting married in Fort Myers Beach at the beginning of June. Since we JUST learned that the sea turtles will be out after 9 pm (and thus the police will tell us to turn off all beach lights apparently??) we are planning on having an afternoon (3:00) wedding under a tent.

Do you think this will be too hot? Terrible for photos?

And does anyone have experience with the police during sea turtle season?

Thanks :)

Erin

Well, June in Florida is hot.  But I got married in May in Jamaica and it was hot, but it was perfect.  We got married at 5pm, so a tad earlier then you.  Does your location allow for the use of a tent?  I think keeping the comfort of your guest in mind is always nice.

June in Florida can be highly humid and hot. If you and your guests are accustomed to heat and humidity you might be OK. If you are not you may be in for an uncomfortable afternoon, and expect dewey faces in your photos. If your reception is outdoors as well, you also need to think about the condition of your flowers and cake in the heat. I was in Miami Beach in June a couple of years back and going outside was like stepping into a steam bath for a Northern CA native ;)

Best of luck and congrats on your wedding!

We're getting married at the end of July on Anna Maria Island, just off the Gulf Coast near Sarasota.  Our wedding planner, from that island, suggested that we start the ceremony at 6 pm to avoid the heat.  They are also requiring that we end the reception at 10 pm for the turtles- that is the island's policy.  (I am also making our ceremony programs into fans for the guests- see pinterest.)  Hope this helps!

June in Florida is hot. The tents will help, but you may want to consider some way to get some air moving through them (fans, etc). You also have to realize that a lot of times in the summer afternoons it will rain, so not only will you have heat, you will have humidity. For me, humidity is the worst part! Your flowers, cakes, hairdos, etc. will not like the humidity part!

We're getting married in June on Anna Maria and my sister, who lives in Florida, keeps telling us how hot it will be etc etc. We're having a morning wedding though, as we have a 16 month old and he is generally much happier in the mornings. Plus, we can't have the ceremony too late otherwise he will be in bed and I really want him there.

I hope those turtles don't disrupt things too much - but how cool to be sharing the beach with them :)

The humidity in the area you are getting married is not nearly as bad as it is up in Northern Florida. June is hot but I would think you are safe and it wont be overwhelming. We are photographers in the Destin area and it really isnt "TOO HOT" until July and August. Have your ceremony about an hour to an hour and a half before sunset and things will be much cooler. If your reception is outside, I highly recommend the tent. Not because of heat but because of rain. Its very common to get late afternoon and early evening showers in Florida and we have seen many receptions ruined because they didn't have coverage. Even a 10 minute sprinkle can cause issues.

Best of Luck,

Gwyne and Mark
