Children at Wedding

Recommended Posts

I didn't really want kids at the wedding, he loves the idea of kids at a wedding lol. I have 10 nieces and nephews, plus most of my friends have little tots themselves now. He only has 1 nephew and several younger cousins between ages 8-17. So we compromised on choosing a family friendly resort so only our immediate relatives could bring their kids. At the end of the day it's worked out well so far. None of my nieces & nephews are going. Only his nephew will be going as he is the ring bearer, and the younger cousins won't be going as their parents want an adult only vacation. We did have a guest tell us she wants to go but will only go if she can bring her 4 kids along. My response was of course she could bring them but our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception are adults only save for the ring bearer. She & her hubby can hire a babysitter thru the resort or bring along a nanny. She said she'd think it ver, I thought I was fair in my response to her.

I actually wanted all the kids to come, but for most people it was too expensive to bring the kids (our resort has a crappy kids rate only $50 for the week cheaper then adult rates. So both of FI's sisters and both of my sisters are leaving the kids home with their husbands and enjoying a no kids week. The only exception is my sister is bringing my 8 year old niece and leaving my nephew home. And I will be bringing my 13 year old son (only cause I have to) haha!

We've decided to handle things more or less the same way. Both my FI and I have some young cousins (aged 7+), so we've included them on the invitations (it would be a huge issue if we didn't). But as far as our friends go, they all have babies (all < 3 years) so we've told our friends that the resort is family friendly and we'd love to see XY&Z in Mexico, but we're not having young, young children at the ceremony or reception. So far though, like I said in another post, it hasn't been an issue at all. Hopefully it stays this way :)
