Do you give your parents gifts, if.....

Recommended Posts

We are paying for the wedding ourselves, too. I got each of "my girls" a personalized wine glass and will be gift-bagging it with a bottle of wine as a "thank you" for my shower, so my mom and FI's mom will be included with those. But other than that, the only thing I got both sets of parents are personalized handkerchiefs from Etsy.

The parents will be receiving something. I doubt my parents will even come to the wedding, but his have been extremely supportive since day 1. I have purchased beachy purses for my moh and bm, and got 2 more for each mom. I have been filling each with little items, that the moms will get regardless.

I know FI's mom will be there. I have already purchased her a special necklace (she brings me home a necklace from every trip she goes on), and I will definitely be doing something else too, because I know that she will step in wherever my mom falls short.

The dads are tougher. They are getting shirts like the groom and best man, and they are also getting "father of..." ball caps, but I am not sure what else.

For me, I knew I would get something for my folks even if they aren't helping and we are not close. I just felt like, NOT getting them ANYTHING would make me no better than some of the things they have done. It would make it so much worse. However, I want to do something nice to show appreciation to the people who are really making an effort, even just to come!

This is a great idea, I was not planning on giving my parents gifts, considering each of my parents have remairried, and same with my future hubbies parents, that would be 8 gifts lol,

I think it would be a good idea to give them a personal card thanking them for their support (whether it was monetary or otherwise) with a note saying that they can pick one of the photos from the photographer that you will get either framed or set on canvas for them to hang in their home.  I think that's what we might do!

It's a bit of a tough one. I think we probably will give gifts to both mums (neither of our dads will be there). If the wedding was at home we would probably have given them a big bunch of flowers, but being overseas makes it a little trickier. I can definitely understand the people who aren't giving gifts but for me I want to acknowledge the support they are giving us. My mum has made my bridesmaid dresses so saved us money there, as well as written the invitations to our English reception (she does great calligraphy writing). My fiances mum hasn't done much but only because we haven't asked her to. She has walked her feet off keeping our 15 month old son amused while we shopped for wedding stuff though, and hasn't kicked up too much of a fuss about the fact we are only inviting a handful of people to the actual wedding. (Which is a big thing for her!)

Not sure what to get them though :/
