Do you give your parents gifts, if.....

Thanks for the info ladies! I can always count on BDW for honest, candid advice! I was totally second guessing the parental gifts since ours aren't contributing financially either. We are still early in the planning stages, so I guess I'll see how much they help out before coming to a final decision. Nice to know it's not obligatory though!

We intend to get our parents photobooks with pictures from the wedding as gifts even though they won't be contributing. Obviously they will get these after the wedding, but we wanted to get them something meaningful and hopefully they love them!! For the wedding itself, we will only be getting them the traditional bouts and corsages to wear.

I like the idea of a photobook for whoever of the parentals helps out with the wedding - i think its a nice gesture, and the cost of it will likely be minimal compared to the help they are providing

I've been asking my fiancé about this... its traditional to give the mothers a bouquet of flowers during the speeches in Ireland. Its not the case for Jamaicans, I think I'll probably give his Mum something small on the day, not during the speeches though. As for my parents, I'm hoping to get a silk flower bouquet( identical to mine)so I can place it on their grave when we get back home.

Ive been to 6 weddings in the past 7 months and every couple gave their parents gifts. This is the first time I've ever heard of people not presenting their parents with something! But I guess different traditions for different areas. I am getting my parents gifts even though my fiance and I are paying for our entire wedding ourselves. I told my mother I didn't want them to help at all, the only thing I asked is for them to make sure that my brother and sister in law get there so if they have to help them then thats all I want. His parents arent doing anything but we still get her something as well. It won't be anything major, probably a t shirt and tumbler like I'm getting for my bridesmaids and then a professional picture in a nice frame. I think it just shows appreciation for them being your parents and doesn't even really have anything to do with how much they do.

Getting my parents a gift never even crossed my mind!! Maybe I am selfish... I think that some nicely framed photos of the wedding after is a great idea. I will however get my FI's step dad a gift because he is our photographer!
